What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Manager position at Delmarva Corrugated Packaging Inc?
The Shipping/Receiving Manager will report directly to the Plant Manager. He/She will have solid line responsibility for hourly employees in Shipping/Receiving which will include a Union workforce encompassing forklift drivers/loaders, bander operators, and any related clerical or production staff; as well as dotted line responsibility for any CDL drivers of tractor trailers that may be utilized to provide services to the plant and its shipping requirements.
Within the plant the Shipping/Receiving Manager will work closely with the Customer Service Manager, Production Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisor, Planner/Scheduler, and Controller at the plant.
This position has responsibility for all day-to-day shipping/receiving operations including accurate inventory management, safety, load quality, planning of loads, dispatch and dock times, and meeting customer shipping commitments associated with the plant. Ensures all OSHA-required training for forklift drivers is met and performs quarterly employee evaluation audits. The position contributes to achieving the plants sales objectives, coordination of workflow, and effective freight management.
Operations Leadership
- Ensure Company assets and physical plant are secure and well maintained.
- Achieve desired results in Safety and Quality through personal commitment and compliance with plant best practices and policies.
- Ensure the department is in compliance with all appropriate environmental regulations.
- Ensure all OSHA-required training for forklift drivers is met.
- Strive to provide world-class customer service via maximum flexibility and response.
- Build effective partnerships with plant leadership and staff functions to drive expected results.
- Assist in monitoring and managing finished goods inventory as well as inventory levels. Ensure utilization of best practice inventory management occurs FIFO and maintain a high level of accuracy with minimal inventory adjustments.
- Proficiently perform shipping/receiving duties to meet customer demands through the use of appropriate business systems.
- Problem-solve and address procedural questions as they arise.
- Arrange for transportation of finished product, as well as any other out-bound or in-bound materials.
Financial Leadership
- Control shipping costs within budgetary limits.
- Protect company financials by maximizing trailer capacity utilization and appropriately training staff on all shipping and receiving needs.
People Leadership
- Coach and develop hourly employees to maximize their effectiveness. Identify and develop high-potential employees for levels of greater responsibility and scope.
- Ensure performance feedback is completed effectively and on a timely basis. Reward and recognize employees.
- Hold people accountable for performance; work with under-performers on training assistance, or put them in documented performance improvement plans and/or disciplinary programs as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of shipping/receiving experience within a high-volume manufacturing company. In addition, they will have demonstrated leadership among a group of employees in productivity, quality, and safety. Therefore, they must possess a strong safety and logistics background. The successful incumbent will have process acumen, be results-driven, and possess strong communications skills.
