The Strapper/Bander/Unitizer is responsible for ensuring the proper preparation and securing of loads for shipment. This position works collaboratively with other crew members to support team efficiency and effectiveness. Duties include operating a gas-powered forklift, maintaining safety standards, adhering to operational procedures, ensuring quality output, and contributing to workplace organization and equipment maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Equipment Operation:
- Operate the automatic strapping machine, ensuring it functions efficiently and effectively.
- Monitor and operate entry and exit automatic conveyors to maintain a steady flow of incoming loads and outgoing finished loads.
- Perform routine equipment checks to ensure proper functioning and report any issues promptly to the supervisor.
Load Preparation and Securing:
- Properly strap loads in a neat, secure manner to ensure product safety during shipment.
- Verify the correct number of straps are used, ensuring proper positioning and tension for load stability.
Workplace Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace by disposing of obsolete materials as directed by the supervisor.
- Assist in general housekeeping tasks to promote workplace cleanliness and safety.
Safety Practices:
- Consistently adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines as outlined in company safety policies.
- Remain alert to safety hazards, taking proactive measures to mitigate risks.
- Report all safety concerns, hazards, or unsafe practices to the department supervisor immediately.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and ensure seamless workflow.
- Support other crew members to enhance overall team performance and productivity.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to meet departmental goals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to operate and obtain DCP certification of a gas-powered forklift.
- Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage but not required.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate effectively with team members.
Mathematical Skills:
- Basic arithmetic skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, tens, and hundreds.
Reasoning Ability:
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to follow one- or two-step instructions.
- Capable of handling standardized situations with minimal variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this job include:
- Regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or manipulate objects, and reach with arms.
