REPORTS TO : The Elementary Principal and the Superintendent
JOB GOAL : To provide education, prevention, early identification and intervention to assist students to achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social / emotional skills to deal with conflict, adversity and perseverance to be a successful individual.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Developing, implementing and managing school guidance programs
- Working with students in individual, small group, and classroom settings
- Assisting students with creating an academic plan for their education.
- Working with students to develop critical life skills such as organization, time management, problem-solving, conflict resolution strategies, leadership skills, and collaboration skills
- Helping students work through difficult situations, such as a divorce or death in the family
- Collaborating with other educators and administrators to ensure counseling programs meet school goals.
- Collaborating with our school counselors district-wide to ensure district student services goals are aligned and strategically implemented.
- Maintains an on-going dialogue with teachers, and health services personnel regarding programs and services under his / her direction.
- Communicates with parents whenever necessary and / or appropriate to ensure student success
- Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
- Assists with development of the master schedule to ensure students' needs are met.
- Assists in maintaining student records and protects their confidentiality.
- Collaborates and develops plans for success with special education students and response to intervention students
- Facilitate and implement 504s for student success
- Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
- Assumes responsibility for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services to meet the needs of students.
- Serves a liaison between the schools and such public health and social service agencies as have occasion to work with or for the schools.
- Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline / concern.
- In the absence of the Building-Level Principal and the Administrative Assistant / Assistant Principal, the Counselor will assume the responsibility of being the person in-charge.
- Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Elementary Principal or Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 184 teacher days
5 additional days pay per diem
Salary established by Master Contractual Agreement.
