Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to join our team in Houston on a long-term contract basis. This role involves providing technical leadership to evaluate business needs, translate requirements into technical specifications, and develop data pipelines and APIs using Python, SQL, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP. The Data Architect will build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines, move data from on-prem to cloud, and implement data governance frameworks to ensure data quality and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering, cloud services, Heavy SQL expertise, data modeling, and data governance, with a strong understanding of data management principles and best practices.
Selected candidate will have superior communication skills, comprehension of demanding business stakeholders, and very effective communication skills to write to and speak to issues that arise when bridging the gap between technology capabilities, solutions practicality and limitations, met with business users with unique expectations.
This is Not a Solutions Architect position. We are hiring for a very data centric team with technical skill requirements including AWS, Glue, Lambda, Snowflake Star Schema, Data structures, Logical Models, DBT, Databricks and heavy SQL skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the team to evaluate business needs and priorities, liaise with key business partners, and address team needs related to data systems and management.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications; establish and define details, definitions, and requirements of applications, components, and enhancements.
- Participate in project planning; identify milestones, deliverables, and resource requirements; track activities and task execution.
- Generate design, development, test plans, detailed functional specifications documents, user interface design, and process flow charts for execution of programming.
- Develop data pipelines/APIs using Python, SQL, potentially Spark, and AWS, Azure, or GCP methods.
- Use an analytical, data-driven approach to drive a deep understanding of fast-changing business.
- Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing frameworks.
- Move data from on-prem to cloud and manage cloud data conversions.
- Develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
- Establish and maintain data governance roles and responsibilities across multiple disciplines.
- Conduct data quality assessments and implement data quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and standards and manage data privacy impact.
- Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to define data governance metrics and KPIs.
- Provide training and support to data stewards and other stakeholders on data governance best practices.
- Facilitate data governance meetings and working groups to address data-related issues and drive CI.
- Develop and maintain a data catalog to ensure data assets are well-documented and easily accessible.
- Implement large-scale data ecosystems including data management, governance, and the integration of structured and unstructured data to generate insights leveraging cloud-based platforms.
- Leverage automation, cognitive, and science-based techniques to manage data, predict scenarios, and prescribe actions.
- Drive operational efficiency by maintaining data ecosystems, sourcing analytics expertise, and providing As-a-Service offerings for continuous insights and improvements.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- 2-5 years of progressive Data Architecture work history in a large/complex corporate IT environment
- 5-10 years of experience in data engineering with an emphasis on data analytics and reporting.
- 5 years of experience with at least one of the following cloud platforms: Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- 5-10 years of experience in SQL, data transformations, and experience on Database Platform Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Oracle, DynamoDB.
- 5-10 years of experience in the design and build of data extraction, transformation, and loading processes by writing custom data pipelines.
- 5 years of experience with one or more of the following scripting languages: Python, SQL, Shell Scripting.
- 5 years of experience designing and building solutions utilizing various Cloud services such as S3, Kinesis, RDS, Snowflake, Lambda, Glue, API Gateway, Cloud Watch, DBT, etc.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related IT discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience in data modeling to support descriptive analytics in PBI.
- 3 years of experience in data cataloging, empowering business, and digital partners to utilize data cataloging and metadata for self-service.
- 3 years of experience in data governance, including data quality, data stewardship.
- Experience with data governance tools and frameworks such as Atlan, Informatica, or similar.
- Strong understanding of data management principles and best practices.
- 3 years of experience in data modeling, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Experience with data modeling tools such as ER/Studio, ERwin, or similar.
