GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs application and removal of various paint coatings on ships and non-nuclear components, interior/exterior surface ships, and submarines preservation per NAVSEA Standard Item (009-32).
LOCATION: Pearl Harbor, HI.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Properly handle and utilize hazardous materials/solvents, including but not limited to, toxic and non-toxic painting materials, select proper protection required when applying, removing, and properly disposing of hazardous waste generated.
- Setup, operate, and maintain industrial paint spraying equipment, airless painting equipment, and sandblasting equipment IAW OSHA, federal, state and local standards and requirements for shipyard work.
- Apply and remove various paint coatings on ships and non-nuclear components, interior/exterior surface ships, and submarines preservation per NAVSEA Standard Item (009-32).
- Prepare and mask surfaces for preservation.
- Attend Government pre-shift and shift turnover briefings.
- Conduct pre-shift and shift turnover briefings with contractor personnel.
- Assign tasks to contractor personnel.
- Verify trades personnel performing repairs and/or installations are trained adequately and qualified accordingly to perform the task(s) assigned.
- Act as a supervisory point of contact (POC) to government representatives assigned to oversee contracted repairs and/or installations.
- Provide oversight of contractor personnel.
- Ensure general housekeeping (GHK) is accomplished as needed per shift.
- Resolve contractor personnel issues.
EDUCATION:
- Must be a graduate with a high school diploma or GED equivalence.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to get a cleared badge for CIA work.
- Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) C-12 certified. Must provide proof of current qualification.
- Show written proof or documentation of one of the following:
- Journeyman's level of skill is developed from both formal training and work experience. The term Journeyman is specifically defined as a term applied to a worker who has completed a specified training program as an APPRENTICE MASTER TITLE (any industry) in learning a trade or craft, or can give written proof of four years of qualifying experience for such trade or craft and an additional two (2) years of experience as a journeyman painter.
- Six (6) years of qualifying experience as a journeyman Painter.
- Must provide medical records and clearance indicating that they are qualified to work with or around lead.
- Supervisory level painter.
- Required to have a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to brief and oversee a job.
- Supervisors are key personnel and must be onsite while non-supervisors perform work on PHNSY.
- Ability to control contaminated clothing IAW 29 CFR 1910.1025(g).
- All experience should be pertinent to work on SSN 688 Class and Virginia Class Submarines.
