Description Position Location : Seattle, WASummary : Performs routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and / or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and / or alterations.Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers, micrometers and torque wrenches. Experienced with use of torque wrench extensions and multipliers. Proficient in the use of portable drill presses. Perform disconnects and connections of mechanical joints. Removes and installs various equipment using sound engineering practices. Overhauls various pumps and valves. Ability to trouble shoot and determine faulty equipment, determine cause of malfunction and determine best repair method. Hydrostatically tests pumps, valves and piping. Have the ability to read and follow technical manuals for various equipment. Fills our objective quality evidence (OQE) forms. May lead a small team of mechanics. Performing duties as Firewatch. Assists with cleaning up work area. Must have 5-10 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment (i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants).Certificates and Licenses : Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.Equipment : General Hand Tools Torque Wenches Precision Measuring Instruments Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities : Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals. Must possess working knowledge of shipboard operating requirements. and understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
