GENERAL SUMMARY: Supervises the installation of alterations, maintenance, and repair of U.S Naval Submarine equipment and systems both shipboard and at associated shore facilities.
LOCATION: Norfolk, VA
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for all aspects of the task assigned from job planning through completion.
- Reviews drawings and associated technical references for current assigned task.
- Works with Resource Manager to ensure proper personnel are assigned to task.
- Works with Government Reps, Ship?s Force personnel, and Lead Maintenance Activity to coordinate WAF/Tagout, Hot Work Authorization, concurrent evolutions, testing, and additional aspects as required for assigned task.
- Leads team in daily task briefings.
- Reviews drawings for material, tracks material, and inventories material when received prior to the start of the task.
- Tracks progress of the task using Microsoft project.
- Manages working hours to keep job on schedule and within budget.
- Maintains and updates Technical Work Instruction (TWI).
- Stops work and seeks guidance when TWI instructions are unclear, drawings or work step instructions conflict with existing conditions, non-destructive or system tests fail to meet acceptance criteria, required qualified worker is not available.
- Submits Daily Reports and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE).
- Submits Condition Reports (CRs) as needed to document issues with configuration, workability of the TWI, and/or growth in scope and does not proceed with further work until guidance has been received from management and planning.
- Maintains/tracks HAZMAT as applicable for assigned task.
- Provides work leadership and technical training to lower-level technicians.
- Provides feedback to Program Manager & Government Reps.
- Participates in Program/Project Review Meetings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working onboard ship and in an industrial environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, working in a confined space, or elevated work. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Graduate of high school, trade, or industrial school.
REQUIREMENTS:
- SECRET Level Security clearance is required.
- 10 years of experience with operation, installation, repair, modification, and maintenance of Naval Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems and equipment.
- 4 years of experience in the supervision of technical support personnel for the performance of Alteration installation, maintenance, and repair of HM&E ship systems.
- SUBSAFE and/or DSS-SOC experience is preferred.
- Must be able to travel to support work in remote locations both CONUS & OCONUS; 50% travel anticipated.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Must possess advanced computer skills and be proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).
- Basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, division and fractions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as process instructions, technical manuals, safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and process procedures.
- Strong communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with subordinate personnel, upper management, and Government Reps.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, & associated technical documentation.
- Must possess working knowledge of shipboard systems operating requirements.
- Must be familiar with welding procedures.
- Must be familiar with electrical procedures.
- Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Must be able to follow safety procedures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required on a regular basis to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and/or hear.
- Frequently the employee is required to carry objects that might weigh up to 50 pounds.
