Position Summary:
The Lead Estimator is responsible for estimate preparation for fabrication and installation of pumping stations, process facilities, pipelines, storage tank facilities, fire & gas systems, and control systems. The incumbent develops project budgets, evaluates project plans and specifications, writes proposals, creates bids, and manages all aspects of the bidding process.

Essential Job Functions:
- Preparation of Estimates: Developing detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Cost Analysis: Evaluating different cost components like labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work to ensure accurate pricing.
- Quality Take-Offs: Measuring and quantifying materials needed for the project from construction documents.
- Bid Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring all costs are covered, and the bid is competitive yet profitable.
- Negotiation: Engaging with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate prices and secure commitments.
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of estimates, methodologies used, and assumptions made for future reference and audits.
- Risk Assessment: Identifying potential risks in projects that could affect costs and advising on mitigation strategies.
- Monitoring and Updating Estimates: Continuously updating estimates as project scopes change, or as new information becomes available.
- Team Leadership: Leading, training, and mentoring junior estimators or team members to ensure consistency and quality in estimation practices.
- Reporting: Preparing and presenting reports to management or clients regarding cost estimates, potential savings, or cost overruns.
- Compliance: Ensuring estimates comply with industry standards, company policies, and legal requirements.
- Collaboration: Working closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to refine estimates and ensure project feasibility.
- Reviews: Assist in the review and development of written work execution plans in support of work scope estimated.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or GED required. Post-Secondary education preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, preferred.
- Seven (7) years’ experience as a full-time Mechanical and or Electrical Estimator in the oil and gas industry. Proficiency with the WinEst estimating software program preferred, or such programs as Timberline, ConEst, Accubid.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in preparing cost estimates within the oil and gas industry.
- Understanding of basic Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the ability to accurately assign estimated items to the established WBS
- Proficiency with mechanical, structural, and electrical bids from $50K to $5M, for commercial and industrial projects
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Programs such as; Excel, Word, Outlook
- Ability to set and balance priorities in order to complete projects on time.
- Ability to make decisions and recommend appropriate course of action in difficult situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
- Ability to handle stress and possess positive characteristics even in difficult or challenging situations.
- Ability to attend training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
- Ability to train personnel in estimating processes and software as required.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications
- Must know MS Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Must be self-motivated, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external team members or customers in a professional demeanor.
- Ability and willingness to work hours as needed to meet or exceed deadlines.
