Position Summary:

The Rigger is responsible for the safe operation of all activities associated with movement, staging and transport of heavy construction materials including attaching pieces of heavy machinery, connecting the parts together and anchoring pieces to fixed structures with bolts and clamps. They also control and manage all the movement of the machinery while it is operational, and then take it all apart when the job is finished.

 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials. 
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability. 
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools. 
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules. 
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain-falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment. 
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques. 
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools. 
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as large steel beams, pipes and platforms. 
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps. 
  • Clean, dismantle and store rigging equipment after use. 
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Work Experience:
  • Two (2) years experience as a rigger.
  • License/Certifications:
  • Must be NCCCO certified Level 1
  • Alaska locations only: North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Training
Post Job Offer Requirements:
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Alaska North Slope locations only: Take and pass a Fit-for-Duty Examination

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 
  • Proficient working knowledge of all rigging equipment
  • Able to inspect rigging equipment to ensure it is in good working order
  • Able to assess each load and select proper equipment for the job
  • Solid math skills for calculating load requirements
  • Physically capable of working in demanding conditions
  • Ability to read and understand plans, isometrics, drawings, specification and/or blueprints
  • Basic understanding of rigging to move pipe into proper location
  • Ability to plan and organize within a work schedule 
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to take direction, and adapt to rapidly changing priorities 
  • Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
  • Reliable and hardworking with a team-player attitude

  • The incumbent is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, or crouch. 
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move items that weigh at least 50 pounds. 
  • The incumbent must not be afraid of heights and be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc.
  • The employee must possess excellent vision and hearing to perform all required Job Description tasks in a safe manner.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs on occasion.
  • Work condition is outside environment (job site/field site) that may have inclement weather conditions.
  • The incumbent is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.
  • Alaska North Slope locations only: The incumbent must be able to physically travel by air within, and out of, the State of Alaska.
  • The employee will be required to work and stay on site during the work rotation and must comply with all Company and Client policies including but not limited to attendance, safety, COVID 19 testing and vaccination.
