What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Hygienist position at Delta Health Alliance?
This position is responsible for hands-on programmatic and clinical functions. This individual will follow directions and guidelines to accomplish assigned duties and will contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results, as needed. This position requires familiarity with rules and regulations relevant to the specific duties and provides support and a positive working relationship to DHA staff and partners. Confidentiality will be maintained, and data collection and reporting will be provided as required. This person will communicate with supervisors and peers to keep all appraised of issues, program updates, and status of assignments.
The Dental Hygienist will aid the Dentist and other members of the clinical team in providing dental services to patients. The DH may be asked to assist patients with completing intake paperwork, to assist with aspects of data collection, working closely with the research team, to consent patients, and providing counts of patients and services obtained.
MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS:
- Associates degree or the successful completion of a recognized vocational program in dental hygiene
- State licensed
- Minimum of 2 years of working as a dental hygienist
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Be able to lift at least 20 pounds at times
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proper sterilization of dental instruments
- Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
- Clean and help protect patients’ teeth
- Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care
- Provide instruction to patients after dental procedures
- Take X-rays
- Assist Dentist with any duties as needed
- Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
- Schedule appointments for patients
- Monitor dental supplies
- Other duties as assigned.
