What are the responsibilities and job description for the Literacy Fellow position at Delta Health Alliance?
The Literacy Fellow will provide reading and behavioral interventions to second and third grade students in need of acceleration, correction, or remediation. They will work collaboratively with teachers and personnel at assigned school to implement a quality literacy program that is differentiated for students’ needs. The individual will devote time outside of the school day to planning, participating in, or leading internal projects within DHA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or higher in elementary education or a related field.
- Valid Mississippi teaching license.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an elementary school setting.
- Experience with implementing Common Core standards.
- Preference for this position will be given to Teach for America alumni.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement a systematic process for reading and behavioral intervention as outlined in the student’s intervention plan and that complies with the state’s tier system. Provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
- Participate in, plan, or actively lead internal projects within DHA expanding the area of influence of the literacy program and working toward DHA shared results.
- Work closely with classroom teachers to analyze student work and coordinate the implementation of appropriate intervention strategies; implements small group and one-on-one instruction for the recommended duration.
- Maintain all required data that documents the progress monitoring and interventions of the Response to Intervention Process (RTI) to ensure fidelity of the interventions. Create and maintain a portfolio for each intervention student to include grades, discipline, and progress monitoring documentation.
- Work in coordination with the school district liaison, and the principal and assistant principal, following directions of the principal and assistant principal.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with the school administrators, teachers, counselors, and students. Follow confidentiality procedures.
- Serve as content area expert in monthly accountability staff meetings.
- Assist in designing, planning, and implementing summer camps.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skill in literacy.
- Other duties as assigned.
