Under the direct supervision of the House Supervisor and Registered Nurse, performs a variety of clerical duties according to hospital policies and procedures. Assists medical and nursing staff to maintain an accurate, chronological record of the patients' hospital stay and course of treatment from ages newborn to geriatric. Will provide open communication within the unit, with patients, families, physicians, other healthcare providers, and members of the public. Must demonstrate knowledge of patient/staff safety measures.
Position Responsibilities:
- Receives, places and directs patients, visitors, medical staff and hospital employees providing accurate information in a friendly courteous manner.
- Receives, places and transfers telephone calls, utilizing proper telephone etiquette.
- Records and communicates or delivers messages accurately.
- Receives requests for service and responds by initiating proper action on a timely basis.
- Requisitions supplies, maintenance and repair services.
- Maintains call boards and other communications sources accurately on a timely basis.
- Organizes appropriate data to set up appointments for patient tests, both at DCMH and other facilities; makes arrangement for ambulance transfers.
- Assists medical and nursing staff to maintain an accurate Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Performs all patient record activities with great attention to detail and accuracy.
- Enters physician orders, completing necessary form, requisitions and communications with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Files diagnostic reports on the chart in an accurate, timely manner and maintains paper chart in proper order when indicated..
- Maintains accurate list of patients (flow sheet) for nursing.
- Responds to requests in a friendly and cooperative manner.
- Processes admits and discharges and adds plan of care to work list as appropriate.
- Daily task list as designated by Manager.
C.N.A. Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, carries out quality patient care according to hospital policies and procedures, functioning within the limitations of job scope.
- Participates in nursing reports by receiving and contributing to status reports of patients.
- Assists staff nurse with physical care of patients
- Assists staff nurses with patient monitoring and records observations accurately.
- Maintains skill level required to care for routine patients.
- Recognizes and appropriately reports changes in patient condition to the responsible nurse.
- Assures that Patient/Family needs are met.
- Makes rounds of the patient rooms and documents accordingly
- Assists with or transports patients as necessary.
- Keeps area adequately stocked with supplies.
- Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care.
- Maintains timely documentation in EHR
Required Education & Experience:
- Completion of a hospital provided training/training program.
- CNA required or eligible within 60 days or FT student enrolled in RN or LPN
- At least one year's relevant experience preferred.
- Good written and oral communication skills, accurate spelling. Must be able to relate well to people.
- Prefer certification of completion of Medical Terminology class.
- BLS required
- Computer skills required, MediTech experience preferred.
- High School graduate or equivalent required. Must have ability to read, write and follow instructions.
