Under the direct supervision of an RN carries out quality patient care from ages newborn to geriatric according to hospital policies and procedures. Assists medical and nursing staff to maintain an accurate and chronological record of the patients hospital stay and course of treatment. Assures patient/family needs are met. Provides for open communication within the unit, patients, families, physician and other health care providers and members of the public.
- Assists staff nurses with patient monitoring and records vital signs accurately. Reports any abnormal vital signs to RN.
- Maintains skill level required to care for ICU patients.
- Assures that Patient/Family needs are met.
- Assists with or transports patients as necessary.
- Collects, properly labels and transports specimens to the correct area in a timely manner.
- Keeps area adequately stocked with supplies and paperwork to include; lounge, med room, nutrition room and desk areas.
- Assists with the training of new employees.
- Assumes responsibility for patient’s clothing and personal property including valuables.
- Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care assists as needed with ADL’s of patients & daily care.
- Receives, places and transfers telephone calls, utilizing proper telephone etiquette.
- Records and communicates or delivers message accurately in a timely manner.
- Requisitions supplies, maintenance and repair services and prepares proper forms for same on patient assignment board.
- Assists medical and nursing staff to maintain an accurate chronological record of patient’s hospital stay and assists with ensuring course of treatment is as prescribed.
- Responds to requests in a friendly and cooperative manner.
- Demonstrates competency in basic arrhythmia recognition, normal sinus rhythm, brad arrhythmias, tachyarrhythmia and cardiac rhythm blocks.
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Current CNA, EMT certification or LPN Licensure in the State of Colorado required.
- Minimum of one year relevant experience as a Ward Secretary preferred.
- BLS required or eligible within 60 days.
- Prefer certification of completion of Medical Terminology class.
- Completion of an electrocardiography course or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Good written and oral communication skills, accurate spelling.
- Strong customer service skills. Communicates well and supports the organization.
- Computer skills required.
- MediTech experience preferred.
