Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic market-savvy Hotel Business Travel (BT) Group Sales Manager to join our amazing team and develop an extensive ongoing pipeline of upper-tier group contracts or ongoing utilization of key Corporate BT accounts. Knowledge of CRM systems, lead sources, meeting packages & hotel sales contracts is required.
Join our exceptional team at a competitive pay rate (45-55k/Yr DOE) plus up to 50% of base pay incentive plan paid through quarterly and annual incentives plus benefits (401k, PTO, Vacation, Holiday and Health Insurance) for Full-Time associates.
Marriott CI/TY Experience Preferred
At least 4 years of progressive experience in a hotel sales environment is strongly preferred. Other prior B2B sales experience is a plus. Must be proficient in Windows, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing. Must be able to type a minimum of 50wpm. Position requires a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends as required for client entertainment. Occasional travel is also required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of Sales and General Manager to ensure that sales activities meet or exceed budgeted revenue for the hotel overall and for identified areas or personal responsibility.
- Dedicates approximately eighty percent (80%) of work time to customer contact sales solicitation.
- Sets goals and formulates action plans for soliciting and maintaining business based on the targeted market segments focusing on key result areas as defined in the hotel business plan.
- Develops and implements sales and marketing strategies for new and existing accounts that will result in meeting and/or exceeding budgeted revenue and GOP goals.
- Maximizes individual productivity and results by planning and structuring time for sales activities based on business needs and trends.
- Generates new business through telemarketing, networking and cold calling.
- Travels approximately 75% of work time (generally within local area) although sales activities may require occasional overnight travel.
- Makes outside sales calls by scheduling weekly site inspections or off-site appointments to introduce hotel services to new accounts and to maintain and increase business to existing accounts to include entertainment both on and off hotel property during client accessible periods (breakfast, lunch or dinner).
- Contacts individuals, civic groups and executives or organizations to explain services and facilities offered by the hotel and to solicit their business.
- Identifies new business by consulting publications and internet searches to learn about events (conventions, conferences, training seminars, social gatherings and other functions).
- Actively participates and communicates with diverse community groups and organizations as a representative of the hotel in order to develop positive relationships with community representatives and networking opportunities that will result in business leads from these groups.
- Maximizes business opportunities with existing accounts by building and maintaining good client relationships and following up with representatives of existing accounts on an ongoing basis to determine their needs for hotel services.
- Evaluates competition to identify potential points of competitive advantage and disadvantage.
- Prepares promotional correspondence with travel bureaus, business, and social groups.
- Develops and maintains standard account management systems for prospects, new accounts, existing accounts; develops and maintains client files.
- Enforces the sales department and Company policies and procedures in accordance with DePalma Hotels Sales and Marketing SOP Manual.
- May perform “liaison” function with other hotel-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and clients.
- May coordinate sales related activities with other departments to increase internal staff awareness of the customers’ needs and to offer new and improved services to customers.
- May attend Staff Meetings and Revenue Management Meetings during non-key selling hours.
- As required of all hotel associates, assist any customer or potential customer in a prompt, courteous, friendly and helpful manner at all times.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
- College degree and/or 5 years of equivalent industry experience in Sales or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Sales Pro, Opera and Fosse is a plus but not required.
- Complete understanding of pricing and yielding policies, sales, and marketing promotions and sales SOP’s preferred.
- Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
- Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
- Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
- Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of a particular need.
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests.
- Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
- Must be available and able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as occasionally needed based on business demand and client needs
