JOB SUMMARY:
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the company's network infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity for subscribers. Key duties include configuring routers, switches, long haul transport DWDM architecture, monitoring network performance, and ensuring high availability and scalability. They will work closely with other teams to support network upgrades, resolve technical issues, and optimize performance. A strong understanding of IP networking, transport systems, security principles, and Linux systems is essential, along with the ability to document processes and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related area of study. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the telecommunications industry with an emphasis in planning and designing voice, video, and data networks required.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (SP) certification required.
- Requires effective verbal and written communication for a diverse range of audiences and settings.
- Proficient in network routing and switching technologies including VLANs, BGP, ISIS, MPLS, L2VPN, OSPF, DNS and DHCP is required.
- Proven understanding of TCP/IPv4 and IPv6, network hardware, network design/troubleshooting.
- ISP, WAN, enterprise or similar network environment experience strongly preferred. Intermediate to advanced experience in a Linux environment and familiarity with NMS, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, IPAM and VM Environments (VMWARE) strongly preferred.
- Experience with PON, Active Ethernet, Edge, Core & Access networks, and FTTH hardware preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Delta-Montrose Electric Association, reserves the right to change or modify the duties and essential functions of this position at any time.
- Designs, installs, and operates all voice, video, data, core and FTTH network and server infrastructure within the Elevate Internet's service provider network.
- Completes provisioning, device hardening, and installation of internet, voice, and video services, including PON, IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, Cisco dynamic and/or static routing configurations including but not limited to BGP and OSPF, service delivery switch configurations and DNS/DHCP/IPAM management.
- Performs extensive design, configuration, deployment, management, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security enhancements of Elevate Fiber customer network, including PON and Active Ethernet environments.
- Manages core network devices, including but not limited to switches, routers, firewalls, virtual machines, and DWDM transport equipment.
- Researches, evaluates, and recommends telecommunication equipment/appliances to support growth and enhance existing systems processes, and the development of new products and services for Elevate and its subscribers.
- Identifies and executes creative projects necessary to improve network reliability and efficiency.
- Monitor network link capacity and forecast areas for future expansion.
- Provides Tier 3 technical escalation support and training to Network Operation Center personnel and other departments/business units related to the voice, video, and data infrastructure.
- Assists Tier 2 Network Operation Support Analysts and outside Plant personnel with installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Elevate Internet's subscribers.
- Completes network documentation of network drawings/diagrams and procedures using Microsoft Visio and related Microsoft office suite products.
- Supports any other advanced services offered by Elevate Internet as assigned, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Must have proven knowledge of trouble ticketing or incident management systems and network management and monitoring systems such as Solarwinds and Observium. Must have proven knowledge of VoIP Systems and services including hosted VolP, SIP, PBX, and ATAs. Requires the ability to create network documentation, diagrams and knowledge base articles.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIRMENTS:
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, ability to speak, and the ability to perform close work. Office equipment used includes personal computers, related software, copy machines, fax machines, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular, predictable attendance is required. Close to 90% of the work performed is done indoors in an office setting. Evening, weekends, holidays, and extended work hours are often required, including an on-call rotation. Occasional travel by company vehicle and commercial means is required.
