JOB SUMMARY:
The Utility Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, protection, voltages, load balancing, planning, and troubleshooting of the company's electric system. Also, this position assists with SCADA, and two-way radio system maintenance, TWACS, and construction of new facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other closely related field required.
- Five (5) years professional experience in electrical engineering with an electric utility preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, as determined by DMEA.
- Must maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the management and development of the organizations Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA).
- Review's daily operations log to determine if corrective actions are required and if equipment operated as intended.
- Continually analyzes system requirements. Prepares and revises circuit diagrams, schematic drawings, and other electrical diagrams based on the analyses.
- Works with both outside engineers and purchasing staff to prepare bids and acquire the necessary materials for work plan projects. May also help develop work scopes for construction activities.
- Reviews switching programs for load and system stability.
- Actively supports and follows cybersecurity policies and standards, and participates in the progression of cybersecurity in the OT environment in conjunction with the IT department.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining current engineering analysis models utilizing DEW applications.
- Utilizes, develops, and applies engineering software to develop system planning documents, voltage drop studies, short-circuit analysis, arc-flash studies, and power quality investigation.
- Responsible for the administration of DMEA's Joint Use Contracts. Including new application review, ensuring corrective actions where necessary as well as ensuring a timely audit cycle.
- Creates, expands, and maintains professional and productive working relationships with peers and stakeholders. Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.
- Responsible for special projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of principles and practices of electrical engineering and the operations of an electrical utility system. Knowledge of personnel practices, budgeting, general accounting, and fiscal management practices; office procedures and business operating systems; and the appropriate methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of business circumstances. Must maintain a working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and should maintain a working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC). Must develop and maintain proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office products as well as with specific vendor product programs.
Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, in a diverse range of audiences and settings; persuasion and negotiation of conflicts and problems; assessing operational, program, staffing, and fiscal needs; interpreting government regulations; evaluating fiscal and financial reports, forms, and data; analyzing complex written documents; identifying and resolving administrative problems, working long and irregular hours, and under pressure conditions.
Understands the concept of providing quality service to DMEA customers and employees and agrees to maintain a continuing commitment to superior people-to-people service.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, kneeling, reaching lifting up to 25 pounds, and driving a light-duty vehicle. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, ability to speak English fluently, and the ability to perform close work. Office equipment used frequently includes personal computers, related software, copy machines, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular, predictable attendance is required. Close to 75% of the work performed is done indoors in an office setting. The remaining time may be spent outdoors on the job site, and the employee in this position may be exposed to inclement weather-heat and cold, and irregular terrain. Frequent travel by company vehicle, both as a driver and a passenger, is required. Occasional travel by commercial means may be required.
Salary : $84,117 - $121,904
