RESPONSIBLE TO: The Learning Center Supervisor
LENGTH OF CONTRACT YEAR: 6.5 Hours per Day (7 in 24/25), 5 Days per Week, In Accordance with the Master Agreement
QUALIFICATION
- Meet the standards for highly qualified paraprofessionals as defined by MDE. High school graduate with at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours), or obtain an associate’s degree (or higher), or meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas: knowledge of, and the ability to assist in; instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or knowledge of, and the ability to assist in; instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

- High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as an aide in a daycare training program or a trainable classroom or equivalent experience and be recommended by an administrator who has supervised the work of the aide for at least one year.
- Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complement Instruction: (i.e., assisting the teacher during the lesson by helping pupils who may be having difficulty in understanding or in keeping up with the class).
- Supplement instruction: (i.e., assisting the teacher by working with individuals or small groups of pupils on follow-up activities specified by the teacher).
- Reinforce Instruction: (i.e., assisting the teacher by administering, under supervision and direction, remedial or drill activities for individuals or small groups).
- In collaboration with the program supervisor and program teachers, class assignments will be determined based upon supervisor’s discretion.
- Assist with daily lunchroom activities (to include feeding activities).
- Accompany student(s) on community-based instruction.
- Be able to swim and/or access the water to assist in the water safety program.
- Assist with receiving students and preparing for their departure.
- Assist with bathroom activities (to include toileting and diapering, if necessary).
- Assist with student lifting and positioning including two person lifts when necessary. (Ability to independently lift 50 pounds is necessary)
- Assist as needed with students when carrying out behavior plan procedures. This may include the ability to physically handle a student weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Participation in provided Crisis Prevention Institute training .
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Persons having a chauffeur’s license preferred.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
