Job Overview
The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and supporting month-end close processes. This role involves recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
• Manage, approve, and communicate changes in all accounting master data which impacts the general ledger.
• Accurately record daily transactions in the general ledger systems, including journal entries for cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue, expense, assets, liabilities, and equity.
• Manage and execute the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Prepare or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Analyze variances and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.
• Execute the processing and reconciliation of employee expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Address discrepancies and provide training to employees on expense reporting systems and guidelines.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues.
• Ensure accounting records are accurate and complete and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
• Prepare or review monthly account reconciliations and ensure intercompany accounts balance between systems.
• Assist with external audits as needed.
• Manage the monthly close process and keep track that all processes and related dependencies are occurring within the correct sequence. Timely communicate delays or issues to management.
• Develop and implement process and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
• Perform other accounting tasks as needed, providing financial information to management as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills proficient with working in a collaborative and supporting working environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
• CPA certification
• Experience with ERP systems
