Nestled in rolling forested hills amid abundant lakes, Delton Kellogg is a public school district with a small school feel and big school opportunities. We are seeking a patient, tolerant, flexible leader to manage bus drivers and sub-drivers. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; assisting administrators with student supervisory and discipline issues; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with discipline investigation related to transportation
- Develops and maintains lists of children eligible for transportation, including special education students.
- Responsible for publicizing student routes and maintaining accurate route records.
- Approves bus stops in as safe a location as possible.
- Be familiar with the streets of the district and ride each bus to learn all routes.
- Approves field trips and athletic trips for transportation.
- Works with principals, parents, and bus drivers regarding scheduling, loading and unloading procedures, route problems, complaints, and student code of conduct regarding student behavior on buses.
- Assists with Safety Program for Preschoolers and all bus routes and procedures
- Keeps records for preparation of state and local reports such as inventories, pupils transported, route mileage, time records, special trip records, traffic accidents, and other required reports.
- Maintains constant communication with bus drivers via two-way radio.
- Assign bus drivers and substitute drivers.
- Assists with recruiting, conducts interviews, and completes background checks. Makes recommendations for employing bus drivers, sub-drivers, and aides. Rides with new bus drivers during their first several trips.
- Maintains personnel records and reports to the payroll department.
- Periodically check all bus drivers' driving records to assure students’ safety.
- Conducts driver education and safety programs for school bus drivers, keeping current on transportation techniques and operations.
- Helps with checking routes during the winter for possible snow day cancelations.
- Input/export data in fuel computer.
- Routine office operations.
- Invoice for trips, maintenance, etc.
- Promotes safety practices for all transportation employees.
- Familiar with bus routing technologies
- Help maintain records on buses and report fleet accidents and property damage.
- Maintains equalization charts and records as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
- Work well with others, especially in different departments
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School or GED. Experience in general transportation operations. Bachelor’s or associate's Degree preferred. Must possess a CDL with P and S endorsements—willingness to attend Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation (MAPT) meetings.
Reports to: Superintendent
- Rate of Pay: $50,000 per year, 40 hours per week
