Join DeMase Technical Services, LLC and be part of an experienced team providing nuclear safety analysis and expert solutions to various clients throughout the DOE complex. The Nuclear Safety Analyst position is responsible for leading or assisting in the development and review of nuclear safety basis documents such as Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) for Hazard Category 2 and 3 Nuclear Facilities.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare rule compliant DSAs and TSRs in accordance with DOE-STD-3009-2014 and 10 CFR 830.
- Provide nuclear facility safety support for major modifications to existing DOE nuclear facilities and new facilities in accordance with DOE-STD-1189-2016.
- Provide technical review for all safety analyses and participate in the development of safety basis documents that support design, construction, and operation of DOE nuclear facilities.
- Develop and maintain effective lines of communication with facility system, design, and experiment engineers, facility operations, support organizations (radiation protection, quality, fire protection), facility nuclear, criticality safety, and subcontractor personnel, and DOE oversight personnel to provide compliant safety basis analyses.
- Perform complex and in-depth technical analyses such as radiological and chemical hazard identification and evaluation, atmospheric dispersion modeling and transport, accident consequence analysis to support development of postulated accident scenarios and controls for both unmitigated and mitigated consequence analyses.
- Identify DSA commitments and derive TSR level controls to ensure hazardous and radioactive material releases are mitigated or prevented.
- Use of safety software (DOE toolbox codes) to develop data, validate calculations, and provide quantitative risk and consequence analysis.
- Analyze and identify complex process data for risk, safety, environmental, or reliability concerns and recommend corrective actions when required.
- Lead, conduct, and evaluate detailed reviews of nuclear operations to identify hazards and develop appropriate controls. Reviews design deliverables against nuclear safety and other industry standards for compliance.
Preferred Experience: Must have at least three years of directly relevant experience performing nuclear safety analysis in a DOE or commercial nuclear environment.
Experience conducting facility and process hazard analysis, safety analysis and reporting, licensing, and risk assessment, radiological dose assessments, chemical hazards analysis, environmental monitoring and permitting, radionuclide transport modeling, and radiation work planning.
Experience performing Natural Phenomena Hazard (NPH) assessments in compliance with DOE standards and orders.
Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing plus advanced presentation skills are required. High-level proficiency in Microsoft software, at a minimum Word, Excel, and Power Point is essential.
Must be able to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Job Location/Travel: Work location is flexible. Significant travel is not anticipated for this position.
