Job Summary:
To assist the Director of Facilities to plan, organize and supervise District Maintenance Staff, assist in the oversight of the maintenance of the District’s buildings and grounds to ensure that students are provided with safe, healthy and comfortable learning environments, and to do so in a safe, non-intrusive, transparent, effective, well-communicated and efficient manner. The Assistant Director of Facilities will serve in the absence of the Director and may move into the Director’s position when vacated.
Minimum Qualifications for Application:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License
- Three years’ experience in school district physical plant maintenance/grounds work or a related field preferred.
- Experience in leading, supervising, and managing staff to include project management, staff work schedules, and collaboration with multiple departments.

- Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings.
- Assist director to provide documentation and reports as appropriate or requested by the Superintendent for Financial Operations.
- Assist director to authorize purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and District rules.
- Assist director to examine sites/school building on a regular basis for needed repairs, maintenance and cleanliness pertaining to safety of occupants.
- Assist director to provide a comprehensive training program for all Maintenance & Custodial staff in proper use of materials /equipment/safety. Keep records of training.
- Assist director to supervise in the department/staff evaluation process. Manage the hiring/termination process and make recommendations to Human Resources.
- Assist director to communicate with Custodial Coordinator in assigning custodians in the most efficient manner to all facilities and work shifts.
- Assist director to establish cleaning standards for all Custodians & Maintenance staff to meet.
- Assist director to collaborate with building principals for reports on staff attitude and building cleanliness.
- Assist director to inspect work by all staff members on a regular basis and provide written copies of the inspections to staff if corrections are warranted.
- Assist director to adjust/change when appropriate, the Districts’ maintenance procedures and workhours for any situations that may arise.
- Be available to conduct accident investigations.
- Respond to calls during off duty hours.
- Assist director in responsibility of all district equipment repair, maintenance and replacement.
- Maintain all district owned fleet vehicles. Schedule required maintenance, repairs and cleaning.
- Responsible for managing the District’s assets for transfer and disposal of property.
- Assist director to establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.
- Assist director to assign and distribute work orders to staff using the current work order system.
- Assist director to ensure that all work orders and PM’s are completed and recorded per PSFA guidelines.
- Assist director to maintain and update annually Districts Facilities and Grounds Plan.
- Assist director to save and submit appropriate paperwork for rebates on all eligible equipment installed.
- Assist director to work with finance to apply to district barcodes to incoming equipment/installed per policy to ensure an accurate inventory of assets always.

Physical Demands:

- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to regularly lift a minimum of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds.
- Physical ability to perform any and all work required. Ability to exercise physical and manual dexterity, including the ability to grasp and maintain control of equipment, pushing, pulling, twisting at the waist, bending, climbing and balancing.
