Job Overview
Democracy Docket is seeking an Editor/Producer to join our growing team. This new role will spearhead Democracy Docket’s opinion section, including editing opinion writing by our founder, and will assist with production and promotion of our YouTube interviews with members of Congress and other prominent newsmakers. The ideal candidate is a strong editor of opinion writing, a fast writer, and has experience producing video or podcast interviews. To really stand out, you should have a good grasp of democracy issues, and creative ideas about how to get the most out of our opinion content, both written and visual.
Key Responsibilities
This is a full-time role based out of either our Washington, D.C. or Jersey City office and will be part of the News Team while working closely with our founder and the Growth Team. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities
- Edit opinion columns and newsletters written by our founder
- Work with guest contributors on all aspects of their opinion columns: shaping ideas, rigorously editing drafts, publication and promotion.
- Identify and pitch guests to write op-eds or record YouTube interviews
- Assist with production of video interviews with newsmakers: contacting interviewees or their staff, scheduling interviews, writing interview questions and preparing founder for interview
- Oversee the recording and editing of interview videos in coordination with external video editors
- Package and upload video interview content to YouTube and podcast platforms
- Produce and promote posts for our website that combine our video interviews with a short writeup highlighting key quotes or news.
- Work with senior staff to shape the overall direction of Democracy Docket’s opinion content.
- Adapt to fast-paced workflows and be responsive to urgent editorial needs, including outside of normal business hours.
- Coordinate with the Growth, News and Social teams, as needed, to ensure content aligns with organizational priorities.
- 3-5 years of experience in writing and/or editing political journalism, preferably opinion journalism.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience producing video/podcast content, preferably interviews with newsmakers
- Proficient in AP style.
- Experience with digital publishing platforms and content management systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with legal, political, or democracy-related issues is a strong plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced media environment that requires flexibility.
