Job Overview
Democracy Docket is seeking an Editorial Writer & Copy Editor to join our growing team. This new role will provide research, writing, copyediting, and administrative support for guest content, including pieces from our founder and external contributors. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, meticulous copy editor, and highly organized professional with experience in digital publishing and political or legal content.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, outline, and ghostwrite content for our founder’s written pieces.
- Copy edit content on an almost daily basis, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Copy edit weekly guest contributor content with a keen eye for detail.
- Format, package and place guest essays on the Democracy Docket website.
- Adapt to fast-paced workflows and be responsive to urgent editorial needs, including outside of normal business hours.
- Coordinate with the Growth and News teams, as needed, to ensure content aligns with organizational priorities.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in writing, copy editing, journalism, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in AP style.
- Experience with digital publishing platforms and content management systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with legal, political, or democracy-related issues is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced media environment that requires flexibility.
Work Environment
This position is based in Washington, D.C., or New Jersey and will be part of the News Team while working closely with our founder and the Growth Team. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary : $68,000 - $72,000
