About the Role
The Advancement Department at Democracy House is responsible for overseeing the organization's fundraising efforts, prospect research, database administration, and communications. The Advancement Intern will play a key role in our small team by conducting research on prospective donors and helping our team identify potential new sources of revenue, supporting database management and collecting information for our communications. This is a research-focused position, so a successful candidate will enjoy research and have strong attention to detail. This internship is a great opportunity for someone looking to learn about nonprofit development and communications while actively contributing to our team's goals.
The Democracy House Advancement Internship is a part-time remote role (10-15 hours a week) and will be compensated at $20 per hour. The internship will run for 14 weeks from February 3 - May 9. Flexible hours depending on your schedule.
Throughout the internship, you will::
- Become familiar with the world of philanthropy and general best practices in fundraising
- Learn about database management and Salesforce
- Advance writing and communication skills
- Gain experience working in a nonprofit setting and as a member of a small team
- Form professional connections and take advantage of learning opportunities with dynamic Democracy House staff
- Be responsible for your own independent work and accomplishments, while collaborating with a dynamic team
General responsibilities of the Democracy House Intern include, but are not limited to:
- Receive training in the fundamentals of prospect research and the use of research tools
- Assist team with donor prospect research and various assigned projects as needed
- Produce donor research reports and assist with writing call sheets and briefings that serve the department's information needs
- Assist department with day-to-day tasks, including database entry, donor stewardship, and department initiatives
- Assist in the creation of social media posts and email communications
- Monitor current trends on public opinion on democracy to help inform our communication strategies
Eligibility Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
- Interest or prior experience in nonprofit development fundraising or operations
- Strong writing, communication, research, analysis and computer skills
- Highly organized, attentive to detail, and able to manage multiple tasks for different projects
- Demonstrated long-term enthusiasm about voting and civic engagement, advocacy, and/or youth leadership.
- Ability to independently and creatively conduct research, and a willingness to learn.
- Be in your junior year or later in college.
