DSCC Finance Director

The Finance Director oversees the committee’s major donor fundraising operation for the Committee and builds the national finance plan for the cycle. The Finance Director manages the Finance Department staff and fundraising consultants and leads the team in meeting/exceeding major donor fundraising goals; executing major donor programming, retreats, and events; and building a robust call time program for the DSCC chair and Caucus. The Finance Director works closely with the Deputy Finance Director in the management of the Finance Department and the execution of fundraising goals and programming. The Finance Director reports directly to the DSCC Executive Director and the DSCC Chair with advisement from the Deputy Executive Director and regularly engages with Senate Democratic Leadership and Members of the Senate Democratic Caucus.

Responsibilities include:

• Hiring and managing the DSCC Finance Department team, including 16-20 internal staff and multiple fundraising consultants;
• Developing and executing major donor packaging, trips, retreats, and events; working side-by-side with the DSCC Chair, DSCC Executive Director, DSCC Deputy Executive Director and finance team to develop new and innovative major donor programming;
• Establishing, alongside the DSCC Executive Director and DSCC Deputy Executive Director, major donor fundraising projections for the cycle; coordinating with the Deputy National Finance Director to break down projections into monthly fundraising goals by region; closely managing and supporting finance team to meet regions’ fundraising goals;
• Tracking major donor income and progress to fundraising goals; briefing the DSCC Executive Director, DSCC Deputy Executive Director and DSCC Chair on the status of monthly, yearly, and cycle projections;
• Collaborating across DSCC departments – including communications, political, research, voter protection, data analytics – to ensure the Finance Department has the necessary resources and up-to-date information to effectively brief donors and Senators on the DSCC’s efforts to elect a Democratic Senate;
• Engaging with and soliciting from major donors, including individuals, tribal supporters, PACs, and political partners; effectively and successfully communicating with donors the critical importance of investing in the DSCC’s mission to elect Senate Democrats;
• Working closely with internal finance staff and consultants to expand the DSCC’s fundraising network and to identify and prospect new major donors;
• Staffing the DSCC Chair, DSCC Senior Leadership, Senators, and Senate Chiefs of Staff at DSCC fundraising retreats, events, and meetings; briefing principals on event programming, donor background, DSCC developments, etc.;
• Collaborating with DSCC Senate Services Director to recruit Senators to engage in DSCC programming, attend fundraising events, and participate in call time program;
• Coordinating with compliance and legal to ensure the Finance Department is strictly following campaign finance law.
  
  
  

Candidates must have:

• At least 8 – 10 years of political fundraising experience;
• Significant experience fundraising in a fast-paced environment, preferably on a political campaign or at a committee;
• Significant experience hiring and managing a large team of internal staff and consultants;
• Success in building a strong rapport among staff;
• Significant experience staffing and briefing elected officials;
• Significant experience and skill in building strong internal processes and systems;
• Demonstrates strong political instincts and uses discretion;
• Experience building a multi-million dollar finance plan;
• Experience managing a yearly budget;
• Experience using NGP as a fundraising database.
  
  
  

The ideal candidate will also have the majority of the following qualifications:

• Strong donor relationships;
• Strong relationships with Senate Democratic fundraisers;
• General knowledge of the Democratic Senate Caucus and commitment to restoring the Democratic majority in the Senate;
