The Opportunity
Denali is seeking a motivated graduate student or postdoctoral fellow for an internship position in the Biology Discovery group to gain meaningful research experience in lysosomal biology. This is a hands-on laboratory position with abundant opportunity for collaboration with other researchers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support high priority projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn new research techniques and apply these methods to elucidate mechanisms of lysosomal dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases as part of their internship curriculum. This individual will perform hands-on experiments (such as cell culture and isolation, cell biological studies including microscopy analyses, lysosomal functional assays, lysosome immuno-isolations and profiling, etc.), interpret and present their research findings to the internal team. The intern must be self-driven, organized, collaborative and able to communicate clearly and thrive in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Accountabilities/ Core Job Responsibilities:
Work under supervision of Denali scientists to design and conduct cell-based experiments to better understand the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases
Analyze and interpret data, and present work to Denali discovery group
Accurate and timely recording of work time by clocking in and out using designated timekeeping systems. Adherence to company timekeeping policies, including rules regarding overtime, meal breaks, and reporting procedures for any discrepancies.
Qualifications/Skills:
Candidates pursuing a PhD in biological sciences or related fields including lysosomal biology, membrane trafficking, lipid biology and cell biological studies of neurodegenerative disease models
Previous lab experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques including cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, basic biochemistry
Energetic, result-driven, self-starter with ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
The expected wage for this position based on the South San Francisco California office location for PhD is $33.65 per hour. Paid holiday time off is based on Denali's designated holidays. Interns who live more than 50 miles away from the office are eligible for an additional housing stipend.
