The Security Captain oversees assigned contract/security job sites and provides leadership, direction and control for all aspects of day-to-day operations including, but not limited to: service delivery, compliance with contractual obligations, workforce management, performing administrative duties (payroll, scheduling, reporting), customer satisfaction, costs and expenses, and general project management as needed.
The Security Captain ensures all functions are performed in compliance with the contract’s scope of work, DUS policies, post orders, and all applicable laws, regulations and operational procedures. This is an exempt-level position working an Urban (Mon - Fri) schedule, based in Fairbanks, Alaska; housing is not provided.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years of experience with a Municipal, State, or Federal Law enforcement agency, military police unit, corrections or private security company
- Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity
- Seven (7) years of experience with TAPS Security in the last ten (10) years
- Current State of Alaska Armed Security Officer License
- State of Alaska Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) certification (or able to obtain within 120 days of selection)
- Valid Alaska Drivers’ License
- High level proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Thorough understanding of security industry regulations and requirements
- Able to travel extensively to assigned job sites
- Able to work on evenings and/or weekends, as needed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving mentality and technical/subject matter credibility.
- Ability to empower, develop, mentor and coach others
- Team player with strong people and leadership skills
- As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- Extensive functional and management/leadership experience
- Knowledge of delivering security services and developing Security Post Orders in the private sector
- Advanced skills utilizing common office related computer programs plus ability to learn proprietary programs unique to client
- Experience in Oil and Gas industry
- Manage day-to-day operations at the assigned contract and provide oversight of the DUS security workforce to include staffing, scheduling, payroll, personnel actions, uniform and equipment orders, and other tasks necessary to ensure the success of the team.
- Act as a liaison between customers, Operations Director and security staff.
- This position has general supervisory responsibility for direct and indirect reports and personnel related decisions within the assigned contract. This includes, but is not limited to recruitment, hiring, retention, training, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and investigations. All supervisory responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with DUS policies and applicable laws and within approved empowerment range.
- Ensure timely and accurate submissions of weekly payroll reports.
- Ensure HSE compliance in accordance with DUS and TAPS contract.
- Provide subject expertise to the client and other appropriate individuals concerning the security program.
- Participate in the client's incident management process as required.
- Conduct incident investigations and complete appropriate documentation/incident reports.
- Assist in reporting security threats/breaches to the appropriate stakeholders and/or authorities.
- Manage response to emergency and non-emergency situations occurring at assigned TAPS locations.
- Maintain an excellent knowledge of and apply DUS policies and procedures (both administrative and security), report writing procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Utilize clear and appropriate communication skills while providing information to others, mediating disputes, investigating incidents, and performing other related tasks.
- Plan and/or conduct workforce training, including OJT, in accordance with the requirements of the contract, facility security plan, DUS HSE, and other applicable guidelines.
- Actively engage in daily operations including regularly visiting site operations and customers.
- Communicate effectively on matters such as contract status, performance, concerns, issues that need to be addressed and potential future contract requirements.
- Provide reporting on costs, budgets, labor force, and overall contract performance, as needed.
- May coordinate communication and cooperate with law enforcement when necessary. Report criminal information to authorities and testify in court as needed.
- Ensure assigned jobsites have adequate resources to meet client and DUS expectations.
- Ability to handle stressful or crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle in a variety of settings and varying weather conditions.
- Promote DUS mission and values. Foster a culture of safety, teamwork and accountability.
- Willingness to travel and work at various locations as required.
- May be required to respond to urgent matters on weekends and evenings
