Job Title: QUALITY ASSURANCE INSPECTOR

Position Reports To: Quality Manager


Summary Description:
Test, inspect and troubleshoot problems with products at various stages of the production process and compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.


Essential Functions:
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams or formulas
  • Confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards (as required)
  • Review production purchase orders, change orders, blueprints, specifications for compliance to company and customer requirements
  • Initiate and follow-up on routing and operations procedure changes per customer purchase orders, blueprints and specification requirement changes
  • Review all sub-contractual documents and generate quality attachments and conduct sub-contractor surveys as applicable
  • Initiate, submit and follow-up on the completion of internal and external corrective action requests
  • Participate in post-award customer surveys
  • Responsible for ensuring that AS 9000, ISO 9001, QS 9000 are implemented and adhered to in your area
  • Serve as customer contact for quality-related communications, including return goods authorization, surveys and requests for waiver of deviation, etc.
  • Provide interpretation of quality requirements on production floor
  • Perform and document audits of all phases of current production manufacture, i.e. core making, assembly, molding, cleaning, non-destructive testing, heat treating, etc.
  • Responsible for completeness of certifications prior to shipment
  • Schedule and present hardware to customer source inspector
  • Calibrate all gages used for production/inspection
  • Select products for periodic audit at specified stages in the production process and test these products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical electrical or chemical characteristics
  • Record test data, applying statistical quality control procedures
  • Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviation from existing standards
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability
  • Provide first article layout and capability studies
  • Evaluate data and coordinate acceptance/corrections with engineering, the customer, patternmaker and/or tool and die facility
  • Help train employees on Quality Techniques, i.e. SPC, Pareto Charts, Fishbone Diagrams, Cause and Effect Diagrams, etc.
  • Perform any and all other job related tasks as assigned


Skills or Experience Required:
Must have High School diploma or GED and a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four (4)-year college or university; or one (1) or two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Tool maker/patternmaker experience is a plus. Must have strong interpersonal skills including being capable of working with others in the resolution of problems and getting the job done.

Must have the ability to -
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
