Job Summary

Appliance Installation Team Members at Martin Appliance are experts in the handling and installation of appliances. They provide information on the appropriate methods of installation and they recommend options to complete an entire project to the customer’s standards. They are detail-oriented, problem-solving, hands-on team members who allow their common sense to guide them in gray areas.

Appliance Installation Team Members relate well to people and are responsible for building relationships with customers, co-workers and manufacturers.  They are the face of Martin Appliance and are expected to conduct business in a professional way that honors our legacy and mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Are you the type of person that ignores a piece of trash on the floor…or would you pick it up?

The successful Appliance Installation Team Member will possess a great attitude and a servant’s heart.  We believe that the technical nuances of the products are important to know; we provide a great deal of training in this area.  Your professional demeanor and attitude also play a tremendous part in the fit that you will be on the team.

We are looking for a Team Member who can work within the team but also take initiative independent of direct supervision.

Our goal for you is to be considered a Trusted Advisor to our customers rather than a hard-shelled expert on the task at hand.

Being a Trusted Advisor also requires empathy and tact, especially when faced with a challenging situation.  Good communication skills are essential when dealing with customers as well as other Team Members who might be in different locations.

Strength is required as this is a physical job with many appliances weighing a great deal.  You will be using trucks, hand carts and your muscles to shift and move these pieces in customers’ homes.  The successful candidate should be physically fit.

This position will require working a variety of hours that may include early mornings, weeknights and Saturdays and at certain times, extra hours beyond the normal schedule.  We will not require you to work any overnight or Sunday shifts.

You will be entrusted to operate a company vehicle and are responsible for coordinating the maintenance of that vehicle, including scheduling routine oil changes and inspections, and other necessary service.  You are also responsible to see that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy both inside and outside.

Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Competencies

You can read and write English and perform basic math functions that would commonly be found in a retail sales environment.  Your interpersonal skills are great; you can read, write and otherwise communicate effectively with managers, Team Members and customers.

The successful candidate can use a computer, tablet or smartphone to send emails, order online products and are comfortable using these pieces of technology.  You can also operate copiers, scanners and other forms of technology commonly found in an office.

You will have some basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing and possess a natural curiosity about the job; you probably work on your own car and fix the broken toaster rather than buy a new one.

You are enthusiastic, friendly and energetic and possess a genuine desire to provide outstanding service.  You are slow to anger and can remain calm in most situations.

You are comfortable in a professional environment and you are concerned with your own neatness and cleanliness.  You can multi-task, handling the needs of customers as well as being flexible to the needs of the company.  A clean driving record is essential.

Education and/or Experience

We value both formal and non-traditional education and believe that learning is a lifelong journey not bound to a specific time or place.  Our ideal candidate is a continuous learner who wants to grow to become a better person and Team Member.

Other Attributes

You are described as dependable and have a high attention to detail.  You demonstrate ethics and integrity in your work.  You enjoy working with others as a part of a team and demonstrate self-control.  You are cooperative and helpful to customers, and show concern and empathy for others.  You courageously take on challenges and can adapt quickly to changes in the workplace.  You smile easily!

Physical Demands

This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, lifting, grabbing and standing.  You will also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, travel up and down stairs and be able to lift up to 100 pounds unassisted and 250 pounds assisted with a hand truck.  You will drive or ride in a truck to customer’s homes and then manually move appliances, with assistance, into the location and install them.

Work Environment

We strive to provide a positive work environment in which all team members feel they can grow personally and professionally.  Reasonable accommodations are made to enable persons with disabilities to perform the described essential functions.  We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity.  All employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit and business need.
