GENERAL SUMMARY
This position is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the students and campus, fostering an optimal learning environment and acting as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by providing high visibility throughout the school, walking and surveying hallways, common areas, grounds and parking lots and enforcing safe school policies regarding weapons, tobacco, illegal substances, traffic rules, dress code, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patrol and monitor parking lots and school buildings during assigned work hours to protect against illegal entry, acts of violence, vandalism, illegal drug activity, arson and theft.
Conduct regular inspections of windows, doors, and other points of entry to ensure that they are secure.
Patrol school grounds to observe unauthorized persons or vehicles, parking violations, and overall security of the outside area including exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
Check identification of pupils, staff, and visitors entering the school.
Participate in the district's/school's emergency and crisis management plan.
Assist in supervision of students, parents and adults at evening school sponsored events when assigned.
Establish and maintain contact with students in order to work with them in a cooperative manner.
Develop and maintain daily communication with the administration, guidance department and teachers.
Refer to duty teacher or assistant principal those students who fail to comply with school rules.
Escort students to office as directed.
Continuously monitor school security cameras during assigned work hours.
Intervene in student confrontations.
Participate in required training.
Participate in faculty meetings as needed.
Records all observations and conditions and reports unusual occurrences or property damage immediately to superiors and documents rule violations.
Submits written reports of all incidents of vandalism, violence, illegal drug activity, and security violations.
Manage traffic concerns.
Supervise student lunch periods on a daily basis.
Be present in assigned areas of the building(s) and/or campus to assist in maintaining order.
Patrol all District property during the summer months when school is not in session.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Willingly performs other related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school graduate. Security experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a computer, telephone, audio-visual equipment, and vehicle. Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to Page 2 of 5 lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds.
Interpersonal Communications:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.
Includes giving assignments and/or directions to subordinates and receiving assignments
and/or direction from supervisor.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of Business English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mathematical computation. Working knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Comprehensive knowledge of District switchboard, phone and computer systems. Knowledge of departmental responsibilities and key contact personnel. Knowledge of modern office procedures, systems and equipment such as typewriters, calculators, and word processors.
Skills/Effort:
Ability to interact professionally and courteously with others, including difficult people. Ability to maintain standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to operate a switchboard and forward calls. Ability to work on various assignments and secretarial tasks. Ability to type clear copy at the minimum required rate. Skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, word processors, computers, etc. Good written and verbal communication, organization, mathematical, organizational, and telephone skills.
Responsibility:
No budgetary or supervisory responsibility.
Salary : $19,035 - $27,662
