Job Summary
Packaging Engineers work closely with our process, controls, and building system engineers to scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines for our food and beverage industry clients. Dennis Group is a design build engineering firm and general contractor that designs and builds food and beverage processing facilities. As such, our packaging engineers are involved with defining packaging equipment project requirements, estimating packaging equipment costs, creating packaging flow diagrams, providing onsite construction support, and start-up and commissioning the packaging equipment. As a Packaging Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to :
Responsibilities
Create basis of design and scope of work documents
Develop design conceptsDevelop functional specifications for packaging linesWork with sanitary design conceptsCreate AutoCAD equipment layoutsInterpret mechanical design requirements and customer specificationsReview vendor shop drawings and discipline coordination drawingsEngineering :Create packaging flow diagrams, material balance, packaging matrix, equipment specifications, OEE documents, speed matrix and V- Curve
Develop budget estimatesCreate and follow up with equipment bid packagesDevelop and maintain delivery and installation scheduleUnderstand size and placement of support equipmentProvide expertise in manufacturing and packaging design principlesDesign systems including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing and palletizingAssist in process simulationDevelop project specific procurement documents for packaging equipmentAssist with machine and process designPreparation of machine testing requirements and proceduresSite work :Survey existing conditions
On-site construction project coordination to assist with the installation and commissioning of packaging equipmentSupervise equipment vendors and installation crewsAttend and present at client meetingsLead factory acceptance testing at vendors shopProvide coaching and / or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.Must have been a part of a project team that installed a packaging system with components including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing or palletizingDepartmental growth :Be part of a growing team
Continual research of packaging engineering best practicesRequired Education Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering4 years of work experience in related fieldMust meet Travel Requirement - On-site construction project coordination and management with travel requirements between 30-50% of the yearProficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCADExcellent oral and written communication skillsIntellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitudeStrong problem solving, organizing, and time management skillsMust have experience in project definition, equipment design / layout, process design, equipment design, machine testing procedures, installation and commissioning of equipmentExperience working for food and beverage manufacturing, food and beverage design firms, or professional engineering firms is a plus.Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.Travel Requirement
