SUMMARY
The Adult Education ESL Teacher is responsible for delivering English language instruction to adult learners within the DYRSD family community. This role involves planning and implementing interactive lessons, assessing students' language skills, and maintaining accurate records of progress. The ideal candidate will utilize a variety of teaching techniques and best practices to support language acquisition in alignment with adult learning principles. Instruction will address both work-related and social English needs, creating a supportive and inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds of all participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lesson Planning & Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging, interactive lessons that cater to adult learners’ practical language needs, emphasizing real-life applications for both social and work contexts. Lessons should be aligned with the Cengage/Nat Geo curriculum and include a range of teaching methodologies to support diverse learning styles.
- Assessment & Feedback: Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate students’ progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Provide constructive feedback to help students build confidence and competence in English. Tailor feedback to individual learning goals to support language mastery.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student attendance, assessment results, and other relevant documentation as required by the program.
- Community Engagement: Attend registration session to assist with participant enrollment. Offer guidance and support to new learners, helping them understand program expectations and set personal language goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of adult learning theories.
- Previous experience in English language instruction for adult learners, or related experience.
- A dedication to serving a multicultural community, with a respectful and supportive approach to addressing the unique cultural and linguistic needs of adult learners.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Curriculum Adaptation: Familiarity with National Geographic instructional materials and platform or other on-line curriculums
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using digital tools to enhance classroom engagement and facilitate remote learning when needed.
