What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Counselor (2025-2026 School Year) position at Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District?

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop, implement and update the guidance curriculum in order to raise achievement levels for all students in accordance with the school’s mission and national standards.
- Participate in programs for parents and students in order to facilitate communication between the school, home and community.
- Possess a working knowledge of student information systems.
- Counsel individuals and groups concerning their educational and occupational plans along with their immediate needs and specific challenges.
- Provide social/emotional, academic and career counseling to students in grades 8-12.
- Assist in the transition between the high school and middle school.
- Understand the laws that govern special education students including those that impact IEP’s and 504 plans.
- Facilitate appropriate referrals based on knowledge of community and state agencies.
- Possess a working knowledge of Mass. Core requirements, MCAS requirements and EWIS.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the school and district to best meet the needs of the students at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the high school administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Secondary School Counselor/Guidance Counselor by MA DESE, grades 8-12.
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to work as a team with teachers, counselors and administrators
- Ability to use technology for data analysis, scheduling and communication
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Master degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
