POSITIONS: Substitute - Teacher/Assistant/Bus/Cafeteria/Nurse
COMPENSATION: All information regarding substitute pay can be found on the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District website.
Substitute Teachers: Substitutes who have completed the district's online training: $120/per day
Substitutes who have not completed the district's online training: $97/per day
Substitute ParaProfessionals and Assistants: $21.65/per hour
Substitute Bus Assistants: $21.65/per hour
Substitute Cafeteria Workers: $18.51/per hour
Substitute Nurses: $35/per hour
All applicants must be fingerprinted prior to hiring. Additional information regarding fingerprinting including scheduling an appointment may be found on our website. A CORI application must be completed with our Central Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Substitute Teachers
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
- Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
- Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times.
- Take attendance and document daily notes.
- Ensure classroom and work is kept clean and orderly.
- Compile a report for the teacher for when he/she returns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Substitute ParaProfessionals and Assistants
- Supports and assists in the accommodation of education/behavior/social/emotional needs of students with unique learning challenges.
- Provide direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting.
- Implements modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the special education liaison or related services provider.
- Adapts classroom activities and materials under the direction of the special education liaison.
- Collects data regarding students' goals and/or objectives as directed by licensed staff.
- Assists staff in the management of behaviors by utilizing pro-active pro-social problem solving skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Substitute Bus Assistants
- Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
- Monitors and supervises students’ behavior and instructs the students in bus safety.
- Assists young students in getting on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
- Verifies transportation notes to prevent unauthorized travel.
- Assists students in crossing the street when appropriate.
- Notifies bus driver of absentees or destination changes.
- May be required to assist, monitor and supervise handicapped students.
- May be required to assist in lifting handicapped students on and off the bus.
- In emergency situations, may be required to conduct wheel chair lift procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Substitute Cafeteria Workers
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals during the lunch time hours.
- Assist with kitchen and equipment cleaning.
- Maintain a positive and friendly manner towards students and staff.
- Perform duties as a cashier.
- Assume responsibilities for proper storage of foods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Substitute Nurses
- Manage a comprehensive and coordinated health service program for students within the school setting.
- Implement mandated health screenings.
- Assess children for a wide range of physical and behavioral illnesses.
- Implement disease management education for children with illnesses such as diabetes and asthma. Process may involve children’s families.
- Prevent spread of communicable diseases.
- Provide emergency care.
- Coordinate health service and education efforts with teachers, administrators, athletic directors, health educators, food service personnel, etc.
- Collaborate with parents, community health care providers and agencies.
- Maintain comprehensive and cumulative health records for students.
- Write on-the-job injury reports for staff members and forward reports to Central Office for processing.
