Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for assisting ophthalmologists by performing various diagnostic tests, preparing patients for examinations, and maintaining clinical equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, a patient-focused attitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take patient medical histories and perform preliminary eye function tests
- Conduct visual acuity tests, tonometry, and refraction assessments
- Administer eye drops or medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
- Assist during clinical procedures and minor surgeries
- Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment, including OCT, visual field analyzers, and fundus cameras
- Educate patients on post-treatment care and follow-up procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Ensure the exam rooms are clean and well-stocked
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is a plus
- Previous experience in an ophthalmology setting is preferred
- Knowledge of ophthalmic instruments, techniques, and medical terminology
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
