Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM
Location: Amherst, NY
Compensation:
- Most candidates will start within the first quartile of the pay range
- Rates are commensurate with experience
Position Summary: This position acts as a subject matter expert that assists with coordinating and participate in a variety of supportive patient care/clinic preparations that assist medical professional personnel, billing and inventory management.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Performs a variety of duties involved in greeting and directing patients, their families, vendors, pharmaceutical representatives, and other Dent business associates
- Leads prior authorizations team by answering questions, assisting with difficult authorizations, or identifying potential trends that should be discussed further with Infusion Operations Manager
- Responsible for submitting, verifying, and following up on prior authorization requests.
- Assist in calling specialty pharmacies to enroll new start patients and scheduling medication deliveries
- Provide copay assistance information to patients
- Works with our billing department for patients with insurance changes and making sure authorizations have been updated prior to their appointments
- Completes a final review of the schedule for next day patients, which includes reviewing authorizations and procurement methods are valid and correct
- Run analysis reports from our prior authorizations platforms
- Works closely with Infusion Operations Manager on project tasks which may include training, feedback sessions, analysis projects, and communication with payers or web based authorization platforms
- Assist with ensuring medications and all required documents have arrived for patients appointments
- Assist with unpacking and restocking medication deliveries as needed
- Provides information to patients and their families on such matters as services, charges and routine treatment procedures
- Assist with schedule any same day add on infusions and new start patients
- Checks patients in and advises nursing staff of their arrival; checks patients out and schedules follow-up appointment
- Assist with filing faxes that arrive on a daily basis and distribute appropriately and in a timely manner
- Answers the telephone and provides information
- Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition
- May assist with training of new hires
- Complies with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, safety and other policies as set forth
- Ensures adequate and appropriate patient follow-up regarding appointments and paperwork
- Represents the Dent by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families
- Independently problem solves and utilizes resources to obtain patient information when patient is unable to communicate. Maintains confidentiality of patient information
- Interacts calmly, respectfully and in a friendly manner with other representatives of services at the Dent
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested
Skills & Experience Necessary:
- High degree of verbal communication and interpersonal skills to determine needs, provide information, and provide emotional support
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office, specifically Excel.
- Strong planning, problem solving, organizational, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of general office equipment including fax and copy machines, multi-line phone system, and personal computer
- Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to be flexible
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet operational needs
Required Education
- Associates Degree and 2 years related experience or High School Diploma and 3 years related experience in a healthcare setting.
Working Conditions:
- Moderate physical effort, including assistance to the disabled patient in transfers to and from wheelchairs, exam tables, bathroom etc.
- Associated health risks related to patient exposure including body fluids and needles.
