Description
The Server Operations Manager performs administration of the Denton County server and storage environments including, but not limited to, maintaining active directory, ensuring system security and data integrity, performing backups, as well as installing, maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting network servers, software, and infrastructure. Acts as the team lead for the Server Team. The Server Operations Manager is required to provide excellent customer service, resolve problems in a timely manner, communicate effectively, and be a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services team.

Examples of Duties
- Leads and manages a team of server engineers responsible for virtual and physical server infrastructure, storage, and backup systems.
- Sets team priorities, assigns workload in alignment with operational goals, and holds engineers accountable for ticket completion and SLA compliance.
- Acts as the primary team member responsible for problem management and project management.
- Ensures that the team members are following policies and procedures.
- Mentors and trains team members to help develop and improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Provides weekly written team status reports.
- Maintains monitoring/management tools.
- Participates in the hiring process and recommends disciplinary action of team members to the Enterprise Operations Manager.
- Maintains and ensures that the team documents, uses, and continually improves all processes.
- Oversees the installation, maintenance, upgrade, and troubleshooting of physical and virtual server infrastructure, messaging systems, applications, and storage.
- Oversees email and unified messaging administration.
- Provides customer services support to all county employees.
- Manages the administration of database and application duties.
- Manages the storage area network system.
- Performs backup, security, and data protection duties as required.
- Provides budget estimates and obtains quotes for purchases.
- Ensures Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Creates specialized reports as needed; documents all work and maintains related files and records.
- Oversees server performance monitoring, capacity planning, and security patching.
- Coordinates with the Information Security Officer to ensure server compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Works closely with the Enterprise Solutions Architect on the design and integration of new systems.
- Participates in annual capital improvement planning and technology budgeting.
- Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations; and holds subordinates to same standards; operates as a Denton County cybersecurity champion and promotes a cybersecurity minded culture.
- Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department; inspires enthusiasm, belief, commitment, and excitement in subordinates.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum four years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Proficiency in ITIL, VMware, Nutanix, Microsoft Windows Server Technologies, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange, SolarWinds Orion, and Dell Server Hardware preferred.
- Position may require various computer or technical-related certifications.
- Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
- Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
