Occupational Therapy Technician - Job Description
The Occupational Therapy Technician will greet and assist patients as directed by the occupational therapist, as well as ensure the clinic and treatment room is clean and prepped for patients.
Duties and responsibilities
Welcoming patients to the clinic and starting them on warm-up equipment. Being attentive to patient or therapist needs for assistance with treatment sessions.
Assisting patients with therapy program under direct supervision and direction of occupational therapist.
Communicates changes in patient's condition to therapist and physician staff. Seeks assistance/supervision/consultation as needed and reports to supervisor any problems and/or solutions regarding delivery of patient care.
Cleaning treatment tables after each patient treatment. Cleaning exercise equipment, work stations, clinic surfaces and spot cleaning bathrooms as needed throughout the day.
Prepares and cleans hydrocollator and splint pan. Cleans/organizes wound care supplies, and therapy supplies using universal precautions and correct technique. Documents the cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
Help maintain data collection systems for assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., occupational therapy) as directed by supervisor.
Assists with exercise programs and ADL training as specified by therapist. Assists therapist in set-up and tear down of all equipment necessary to perform assessments and treatments.
Assist with use of modalities including but not restricted to ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, heat and cold under the direction of the occupational therapist.
Assisting with supply inventory and ordering.
Assists with the entry of patient measurements in paper charts. Organizes and maintains patient paper charts.
Participates in orientation and training of additional therapy technicians, students, volunteers and observers.
Completes assigned work within scheduled hours and offers assistance to others to ensure departmental work is accomplished.
Represents department in a positive manner in the office, and community. Other duties as assigned:
Assists front desk staff with administrative duties and scheduling patients as needed.
Helps maintain all educational material and department forms. Helps with faxing, scanning and copy needs of the department.
Qualifications
Interest in health sciences careers
Familiarity with sports and exercise
Ability to communicate well and respond verbally and in writing to or for patients, family members and staff members
Must be able to listen attentively to what patients say and must be able to explain what responsibilities the patients have in treatment as directed by therapist.
Strong organizational skills in time managements, multi-tasking and prioritization.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem and informing professional staff of the problem in a timely way.
Have good knowledge of telephone and computer skills to work efficiently in an EMR system.
Ability to meet the same physical requirements as those for direct contact staff positions
Education/Licensing/Certifications
High School graduate or equivalent required
Job Type:
Part-time.
Work hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays 8a-5pm, occasional Wednesdays 8a-12p
