Primary Purpose:
Acts as campus liaison between Attendance Officers, courts, administration, campus staff, parents, and the community.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some college preferred
- Specialized training in office management
Experience
- One to three years related experience and/or specialized training preferred
- Data entry and previous computer experience required
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Must be knowledgeable in Windows based network programs, File-maker Pro, and Excel spreadsheets, and have the ability to use computer programs to prepare presentations, write detailed reports and prepare affidavits and other court-related paperwork for the Attendance Officers.
- Proficient with operating a scanner to send required documentation to the courts, schools, etc.
- Must be familiar with the Texas Compulsory Attendance Law
- Ability to work cooperatively with courts, campus administrators and staff, parents and community members
- Bilingual preferred
- Proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite
- Ability to exercise good judgment in handling confidential information
- Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides and coordinates multiple attendance services for entire school district and community.
- Serves as central hub for all calls, emails and visits relating to attendance.
- Prepares/maintains court documents, dispositions, and paperwork for filing cases in court.
- Cross-trained to fill in for Attendance Officers in the event of a prolonged absence.
- Files cases, signs and submits affidavits and represents cases in court.
- Assists with cases that proceed to trial and coordinates with the Assistant District Attorney.
- Assists the campuses in keeping up with court rulings and filing deadlines.
- Prepares paperwork and maintains log on officers’ home-visits, school visits, work visits, etc.
- Assists with research on locating students and parents for address verification investigations.
- Compiles attendance/court activities and detailed statistics reports on a weekly basis for Attendance Officers, Director of Support Services, Central Administration and campuses.
- Obtains district attendance and absence figures from each school weekly.
- Monitors and maintains files on problem attendance students and keeps officers informed.
- Maintains and updates information in truant student folders, including court actions.
- Provides weekly information and court referrals between campus staff, attendance officers, courts, and central administration.
- Assists high school Attendance Liaisons in performing detailed statistical reports for their individual campuses.
- Assists Attendance Officers with district-wide attendance training yearly.
- Responsible for individual campuses’ remedial training conducted on-site.
- Prepares all materials and certificates and lists for monthly Truancy Consequences classes and the Attendance/Parolee Initiative held at the Service Center Annex.
- Assists Attendance Officers with attendance file reviews (audits) at each of the campuses.
- Attends all court appearances as a representative of Denton ISD.
Other Related Duties:
- Keeps informed and up to date on attendance laws, changes in laws and school district policies having to do with attendance.
- Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
