Primary Purpose:
Provides support to classroom teachers with implementing the Instructional framework, curriculum, address social/emotional/behavioral needs with the purpose of enhancing student achievement.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- Certified Teachers, Counselors, and Retirees
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or Licensed Professional Counselor licensure
Experience
- Previous experience working with elementary and/or secondary students in diverse populations, preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills
- General knowledge of classroom management and multi-tiered systems of support for behavior
- Ability to identify multi-cultural needs
- Ability to mentor classroom teachers to develop and sustain exceptional classroom management skills
- General knowledge of social emotional needs of elementary students
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Observes, models, and coaches identified staff on implementation of tier one classroom management/behavioral support.
- Provides critical coaching, consultation, and resources to targeted staff to support the development of mindsets, systems, practices, interventions, and partnerships needed to effectively create a well-managed classroom that enhances learning for all students.
- Presents a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
- Adapts, modifies, and/or acquires instructional materials from the teacher/principal.
- Keeps the principal informed of teacher progress.
- Participates in training and staff development, as needed.
- Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other required documents.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
- Follows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Denton ISD and follows directives from supervisors.
Other Related Duties:
- Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
