Primary Purpose:
Provides specialized multisensory instruction to students who have the condition of dyslexia utilizing a structured language curriculum that meets TEA Dyslexia requirements. Monitors student progress, collects data, and assists with dyslexia referrals.
Assists and provides training to teachers on campus in utilizing effective reading practices. Participates in 504/ARD meetings, is an active member of the DMTSS committee, and supports students who exhibit reading difficulties.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university
- Master’s degree preferred; applicants without a master’s degree required to obtain master’s degree within three (3) years of hire per Academic Language Therapy Association
- CALT certified preferred, not required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
Experience
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Trained in MTA, LEAD training, Take Flight training, or other accredited Dyslexia program (preferred but not required)
- Knowledge and experience working with students who have reading difficulties
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Leadership ability and experience in providing staff development in areas of reading
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of 504 and Special Education laws/procedures
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Works collaboratively with building staff to deliver exemplary reading instruction to dyslexia students.
- Provides staff development and coaching to campus personnel on reading issues related to dyslexia.
- Provides instructional services to students who have been identified for dyslexia therapy.
- Keeps accurate records, progress monitoring, and data collection for students as required per Dyslexia Department.
- Assists in evaluating students who have been referred for a dyslexia evaluation.
- Attends department and campus meetings involving dyslexia related training and/or concerns.
- Attends and provides input at 504 and/or ARDC meetings regarding students that are provided dyslexia therapy.
Communication
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Uses acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

- Participates in professional development, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Serves on staff committees as required.
