Position: Specialist, Routing Transportation
Primary Purpose:
Support the safe and efficient operation of student transportation by training new drivers, retraining current drivers, and ensuring compliance with state and district regulations. This role works collaboratively with transportation leadership to oversee driver certification processes, maintain training records, and assist with hiring procedures to uphold the highest safety and performance standards.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) Passenger, Air Brake & School Bus Endorsements
- Texas T.E.A. School Bus Driver certification
- Must pass annual DOT physical
Experience
-
Three (3) years of experience driving a school bus and in training new drivers (preferred).
- Must have received satisfactory evaluations on appraisals.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and file maintenance skills.
- Proficient organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in utilizing digital devices (personal computer, laptop, tablet, etc.) and software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), for document creation, data analysis, and database management.
- Ability to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and procedure manuals.
- Ability to facilitate new driver/monitor personnel and coordinate their training and retraining as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
Hiring and Personnel Support
- Coordinate the hiring process by scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and managing all required paperwork.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date driver files by tracking physical exams, certification renewals, and driver’s license expirations; schedule certification classes as needed.
Administrative and Clerical Functions
- Coordinate general office and clerical functions of the office.
- Prepare, maintain, and distribute trip-related information using various computer software systems, ensuring accurate data entry, retrieval, and reporting.
- Utilize district-approved technologies to perform job responsibilities effectively; actively participate in required training to stay proficient in relevant systems and tools.
Communication and Professionalism
- Establish and maintain clear, professional, and responsive communication with all internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Adapt to varying work schedules based on department needs, including availability for on-call nights and weekends as required.
Driving Responsibilities
- Operate any district-approved bus type or size as needed for scheduled or unscheduled service.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participate in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department.
