Responsibilities and practice
The Des Moines, Iowa office of Dentons Davis Brown is seeking an associate with excellent academic credentials to join our growing Immigration practice. The person hired for this position will:
- Advise and represent corporate clients on a variety of employment-based immigration matters, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, EB-2, EB-3, PERM labor certifications, and green card applications
- Draft and prepare employment-based visa petitions, including supporting documentation for H-1B, L-1, O-1, TN, and other non-immigrant visa categories
- Manage and process employment-based green card applications, including PERM labor certification and I-140/I-485 petitions
- Guide clients through complex immigration compliance issues, such as I-9 audits, public charge determinations, and other employment-related immigration concerns
- Work closely with HR departments, corporate executives, and employees to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and provide proactive guidance on immigration strategy
- Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of Labor (DOL), and other relevant agencies
- Stay current on evolving immigration laws, regulations, and policies related to employment-based immigration
- Prepare and review legal filings, including petitions, applications, motions, and responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs)
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates on case progress and offering strategic advice
- Collaborate with senior attorneys and team members to manage a high-volume caseload and complex immigration matters
Position requirements
Personal skills/attributes
- Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing immigration law
- Strong working knowledge of immigration laws and regulations, particularly those related to employment-based visas, PERM labor certification, and employment-based green card processing
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment
- Fluency in Spanish or another foreign language is a plus but not required
Technical skills
- Experience with immigration compliance and employer obligations under U.S. immigration law, including I-9s, E-Verify, and public charge regulations
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients and colleagues
- Proficient in drafting legal documents, including petitions, applications, and responses to government requests
Other requirements
- Should be licensed to practice law in the State of Iowa and be in good standing
