Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking an on-call Interpretation & Evaluation Assistant in our Exhibitions, Art & Learning Engagement Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:


Position Summary:

This on-call position assists in the coordination, preparation, and execution of interpretation and evaluation projects as part of the Exhibitions, Art & Learning Engagement department at Denver Botanic Gardens. Under general supervision, this role provides support to the Manager of Interpretation and Evaluation by performing a variety of project-based administrative and physical tasks in a fast-paced environment. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with delivery of on-site and electronic surveys, assisting with signage program, record keeping, content research, writing, and coordination of program materials. Some outdoor and visitor-facing work is required. 


Schedule is variable, averaging up to 19 hours per week.

Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates materials for evaluation programs, including online survey setup, data entry and creating reports.
  • Collects data for visitor studies onsite, including approaching visitors to conduct surveys.
  • Enters data from program evaluation and visitor studies.
  • Prepares reports from online survey software.
  • Conducts background research, asset gathering and fact-checking for interpretive projects.
  • Assists in preparation and editing of texts for horticultural interpretive labels.
  • Assists with the development and coordination of interpretation and evaluation projects and all related activities.
  • Assists in installation and maintenance of interpretive signage inventory in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Attends and contributes to project team and department meetings.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is always at the discretion of management.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of people.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as averages, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 
  • Must have excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Ability to respond to sensitive issues with care and maintain confidentiality with sensitive or operational topics.

  • Flexible work schedule required, including frequent weekend and/or evening hours. · Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams. 
  • Must always be a positive representative of the Gardens internally and externally. 
  • Must work with respect and cooperate with fellow employees and the public. 
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times. 

Experience/Education: 

  • Bachelors degree and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required. 
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in hospitality, customer service, environmental signage, museum or other scientific/cultural environment or evaluation field is required. 
  • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required. 

Travel:

  • Travel: Up to 25% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to other Garden locations where environment may vary significantly.
