Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Manager of Operations and the Assistant Manager of Irrigation, this position provides support to Horticulture, CSA, and the Operations departments through applying appropriate irrigation and grounds maintenance techniques. This position performs tasks related to the installation, maintenance and operation of irrigation systems, water features, pathways and common garden areas at Chatfield Farms.

Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Manager of Operations and the Assistant Manager of Irrigation, this position provides support to Horticulture, CSA, and the Operations departments through applying appropriate irrigation and grounds maintenance techniques. This position performs tasks related to the installation, maintenance and operation of irrigation systems, water features, pathways and common garden areas at Chatfield Farms.
Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates with horticulture, CSA, and operations team to operate irrigation controller efficiently.
- Performs weekly irrigation diagnostic evaluation of equipment, responds to emergency call outs, troubleshoots problems and takes actions to ensure plant / system integrity;
- Performs assigned tasks including, but not limited to digging trenches and ditches, laying pipe, installation, cleaning and maintenance of water features and pumps.
- Responsible for outdoor pond cleaning and maintenance.
- Operates various types of equipment such as backpack blowers, string trimmers, and other handheld tools.
- Maintains all pathways throughout the property with respect to safety and clearance.
- Observes and monitors data, machinery, and equipment to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
- Operates power driven machinery such as trenches, carts, and trucks.
- Assists with garden installations and construction projects.
- Coordinates with horticulture, CSA, and Operations staff to keep common garden areas clean.
- Participates with snow removal as assigned.
- Participates in special events as needed including but not limited to Concerts, Corn Maze, Lavender Festival, Pumpkin Festival and Trail of Lights. Duties may include assisting in set-up, teardown, planning, cleanup, etc.

- Maintains a satisfactory working relationship with managers, co-workers and others.

- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing, etc.
- Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Regular attendance at the worksite will be required.

- Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
- Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
- Must be committed to working safely at all times.
- High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in irrigation systems /grounds maintenance is required. Two years or more experience is preferred.
- Possession of or progress toward a Landscape Irrigation Technician Certification within one year of hire date is required.
- Position requires a valid driver’s license.
