This position is responsible for the repair and oversight of Denver Botanic Gardens irrigation systems, water features, lighting, and turf management. This position pursues improved standards for maintenance and establishes uniformly high standards of maintenance of water systems. Additionally, this position ensures a positive and pleasant experience and the safety, cleanliness and visual appeal of the water systems of Denver Botanic Gardens. This position and requires knowledge of both preventive and applied maintenance techniques in order to efficiently diagnose and resolve difficult water related problems.
Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
Up to 10% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.

Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides oversight and management to the Irrigation Assistant
- Ensures training and qualification on all assigned equipment.
- Assist in collaboration with the Horticultural Department plans and coordinates irrigation, water feature, and lighting projects as they involve Horticultural issues.
- Oversees on-site preventive maintenance and repairs of all irrigation, water features and lighting equipment.
- Maintains job specific tools, inventories, and equipment.
- Ensures shop equipment is in proper working condition.
- Applies and optimizes appropriate irrigation design, mapping, renovation, maintenance, programming, monitoring, repair/removal, and installation techniques to a variety of systems ensuring irrigation requirements are met.
- Manages and programs the Central Control System, including the main circulation pumping station.
- Oversees the management of all related water feature systems.
- Oversees the management of all related 24 volt lighting systems.
- Troubleshoots proposed garden construction, design, and landscaping plans.
- Inspects irrigation contractor’s work and other construction work as related to irrigation and water features.
- Recommends the replacement of existing systems.
- Participates with snow removal.
- Maintains a positive and professional working relationship with managers, co-workers, visitors and others.
- Attends all meetings “on-sight” as required.
- Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.
- All Gardens employees must be committed to the mission of connecting people with plants, especially plants from the Rocky Mountain region and similar regions around the world, providing delight and enlightenment to everyone.
- Must have a working knowledge and full range of irrigation maintenance tools, including but not limited to trencher, puller, heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of full range of irrigation and water features.
- Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
- Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
- Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
- Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
- Must be committed to working safely at all times.
- High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in water management and irrigation including designing, installing, programming, maintaining, and repairing a variety of systems associated with water.
- Minimum two years’ experience in small and large equipment maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) license.
