What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Turf and Grounds Coordinator position at Denver Broncos and Stadium Management Company?
JOB SUMMARY: The Sports Turf and Grounds Coordinator will assist the Director of Turf and Grounds and Assistant Turf Manager in the planning and execution of the athletic field preparation programs at Empower Field at Mile High and the surrounding landscape.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with turf maintenance operations of the stadium field and associated equipment to NFL specifications

- Assist with planning and execution of all routine maintenance on the stadium field
- Assist with sod/resod operations. Properly remove and install irrigation heads and soil sensors during resodding
- Operate mowers, tractors, aerators, utility vehicles, and other equipment to maintain stadium field
- Lead and execute field and logo painting, bench area setup and strike, and NFLPA testing procedures prior to home games
- Assist in regular irrigation system checks, field heat system, and field aeration system ensuring proper function and to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems and seek to improve standard operating procedures
- Identify and document field equipment, material handling equipment, and associated facility systems related to the field in need of repair and make recommendations based on priority
- Monitor, troubleshoot, repair and program stadium irrigation cycles, balancing field appearance and water conservation
- Assist with snow removal and tarp installation/strike on the field based on best practices and event needs
- Transport, install, and strike turf growth lights
- Communicate regularly with department management and staff to provide constant updates of any issues or concerns which may be present with the systems and provide recommendations for corrective actions
- Required to work all Denver Broncos Home football games and public events as assigned
- Aid with seasonal staff and inventory management
- Ensure proper equipment operation by seasonal staff and turf maintenance
- Assist with developing daily work schedules for turf crew based on priorities and required due dates provided by department management
- Assist the Director of Turf and Grounds with inventory management of all supplies and materials for turf management. Including but not limited to field paint, painting supplies and spare parts for paint machines, grass seed, fertilizers (liquid and granular), game and field equipment, and back-up parts, irrigation equipment, hand tools and shop supplies, cover anchors, topdressing sand, as well as procurement of any needed miscellaneous supplies
- Assist with the selection and management of vendors and contractors for field and irrigation maintenance and repairs
- Ability to cover for turf management team in his or her absence.
- Support equipment maintenance and fertility program
- Maintain all owned equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations to maximize lifespan and safety
- Ensure maintenance requirements are being met on all in-kind trade equipment according to agreements. This would include tractors, utility vehicles, seeder, topdresser, vacuum, paint machines, covers, hand tools, field equipment, mowers, etc.
- Maintain fertilizer and pesticide application logs, calibrate all application equipment (spreaders, boom sprayers, topdresser) to achieve target application rate
- Assist with landscape management
- Perform daily property checks to ensure cleanliness and irrigation system is functioning properly
- Assist with irrigation controller programming and troubleshooting
- Recommend repairs, maintenance, or projects around the property
- Support stadium event operations by:
- Assisting with event/stadium setup and strike
- Monitor and communicate weather conditions prior to and during stadium events
- Contribute to department team effort
- Ability to adapt to department needs and support all department and organizational goals
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Assist in other duties assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agriculture, or equivalent from an accredited program; or Certificate in Turfgrass management and three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2-4 years of experience in sports turf/golf course/landscape maintenance
- 1 years of experience in professional/collegiate natural grass field management
- Basic knowledge of turfgrass management, landscape management, computerized irrigation systems, field layout and painting techniques, snow removal equipment and procedures
- Ability to operate a smart phone and computer with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
- Basic knowledge of turfgrass management, landscape management, computerized irrigation systems, field layout and painting techniques, snow removal equipment and procedures
- Proficient at operating and maintaining industry-standard equipment
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to work under pressure
- Must work flexible and extended hours including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays
- Must maintain confidentiality
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITY
- Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agriculture, or equivalent from an accredited university; or three (3) years' experience in NFL natural grass field management or professional sports team grass field management
- Work well independently as well as work closely with all members of the organization, with a high level of commitment required
- Self-motivated with excellent organization and planning abilities
- Above average oral and written communication skills with ability to maintain strong documentation
In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this position is $45,000 - $51,000 and this position will be eligible for overtime pay.
