Role Overview

As a LEARN Canvasser, you will play an essential role on our field team as we elevate the conversation around public education in Denver. Reporting to the Program Manager, you’ll conduct door-to-door canvassing activities to learn more about the public education issues that matter most to Denver’s families and encourage greater participation in shaping the future of our schools. This is a part-time position running approximately 10 weeks, from early June to early August.

Responsibilities

Canvassing:

➔ Conduct door-to-door canvassing in communities across Denver to elevate the conversation about the future of public education in Denver and encourage the community to vote in the upcoming 2025 school board election.

➔ Utilize provided scripts and talking points to effectively communicate program goals, messages, and key issues to individuals.

➔ Collect data and input information accurately into designated systems and forms, ensuring data integrity

➔ Follow canvassing protocols and maintain a respectful and empathetic approach when engaging with individuals; recognizing, respecting, and acknowledging diverse perspectives and backgrounds

Required Qualifications

➔ Lived experience as an educator, parent, DPS alum, or community member directly connected to Denver Public Schools.

➔ Strong commitment to educational and racial equity and a belief in the importance of every child having access to a high-quality public education.

➔ Friendly, respectful, and empathetic when engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

➔ Willingness to build relationships, listen to community voices, and help elevate the priorities of Denver Families.

➔ Open to learning new skills, adaptable, and able to have a little fun while doing important work.

➔ Reliable and punctual, with the ability to manage your schedule and meet daily canvassing goals.

➔ Comfortable working with basic technology for data entry and communication.

➔ Access to a reliable transportation, and a valid driver’s license

➔ Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides

➔ At least 18 years of age

➔ Please note that this position requires walking on public and private sidewalks, which may not always be ADA accessible.

Preferred Qualifications:

➔ One election cycle or one year of organizing experience, or experience within another campaign or organization.

➔ Bilingual or multilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply. We value your ability to connect with families in the languages they speak at home, including Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, French, Mandarin, Nepali, Somali, or Vietnamese.

Compensation

The base rate for this part-time position is $31 / hour. The rate for bilingual canvassers who are fluent in Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, French, Mandarin, Nepali, Somali, or Vietnamese is $36 / hour.
