Job Summary

Under general supervision, the psychologist provides doctoral-level integrated behavioral health services as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) and serves as a key member of the Bariatric Team. The BHC follows clinic-specific guidelines and expectations while delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adults in the Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) clinic(s). Responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments and providing brief, evidence-based treatment for psychiatric disorders. The psychologist will also assess psychosocial factors in patients with chronic medical conditions and perform substance abuse screenings. It is essential to deliver case management, consultation, and care coordination to facilitate referrals to specialty care and crisis intervention services. The provider will engage in quality improvement initiatives, data monitoring, and research projects to enhance patient care. Additionally, one may participate in supervision and teaching for the pre-doctoral psychology internship and provide mentorship to psychology residents and practicum students, as needed. Overall, It is important to ensure a positive patient experience by adhering to the highest customer service standards set by Denver Health.

Essential Functions

  • Provide high quality clinical services to individuals referred to behavioral health, including short-term evidence-based behavioral health interventions and support services. (10%)
  • Provide services that are appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patient. (10%)
  • Consult with providers as part of the interdisciplinary team and generate recommendations, referrals, and case management as needed. (10%)
  • Conduct brief diagnostic screening of patients using evidence-based assessments and screening tools. (10%)
  • Provide health behavior change interventions using Motivational Interviewing. (10%)
  • Conduct in-depth diagnostic assessment as needed. (5%)
  • Conduct safety and risk assessment as needed. (5%)
  • Generate documentation of assessment and intervention in the medical record in a timely manner. (5%)
  • Actively participate in regular team meetings and huddles of the interdisciplinary team at primary care clinic. (5%)
  • Participate in Integrated Behavioral Health Division meetings to maintain cohesion and improve awareness of department functioning. (5%)
  • Participates or provides leadership of department, agency, or community meetings as well as internal Denver Health workgroups. (5%)
  • Participate in teaching and didactics as part of the training faculty of the Division of Psychology for psychology pre-doctoral residents and practicum students. (5%)
  • Provide teaching and presentation of relevant topics to the Integrated Behavioral Health Division staff. (5%)
  • Provide teaching and presentation of relevant topics to the medical residents and training programs within Denver Health and University of Colorado. (5%)
  • Participate in academic efforts in research and professional writing. (5%)

Education

  • Doctorate Degree in psychology from an accredited school Required

Work Experience

  • 1-3 years One year of postdoctoral experience Required

Licenses

  • PSY-Licensed Psychologist - State Board of Psychologist Examiners Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in psychological practice within primary care medical settings, including evidence-based interventions, brief therapy modalities, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, diagnoses, treatment, and prognosis relevant to patient care.
  • Expertise in addressing cultural, religious, ethnic, and social factors that influence patient interactions, care planning, and education.
  • Ability to provide care tailored to various age groups within the clinic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and motivation to work within a dynamic interdisciplinary medical team.
  • Ability to establish a therapeutic alliance, engage patients in collaborative goal-setting, and prioritize patient needs as part of the integrated healthcare model.
  • Ability to participating as faculty within the Division of Medicine, including teaching and supervision for the psychology internship training program through the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Ability to respond effectively to trauma and psychiatric emergencies, including writing involuntary mental health holds when necessary.
  • Competence in managing the therapeutic relationship, including triaging patients to specialty mental health services and determining appropriate care transitions.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback into clinical practice to enhance patient care.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.
