Job SummaryThe Senior Infection Prevention (IP) Specialist is an experienced Infection Preventionist with an exceptional skill set and knowledge in a variety of infection prevention and control practices. The Senior IP Specialist is responsible for assisting the Manager of Infection Prevention in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of IP activities across Denver Health, utilizes improvement methodology to lead and/or support multiple projects at a time, provides strategic thoughts and ideas to the IP leadership and team, and serves as a trainer and mentor to less-experienced team members.
Essential Functions:
- In addition to participating in the essential duties and responsibilities of the Infection Prevention Specialist: (10%)
- Provides IP representation and expertise to multidisciplinary organizational committees (e.g., Products Committee, Environment of Care, Emergency Management, etc.). (10%)
- Presents strong analytic, problem solving, and change management skills. (10%)
- Identifies, recommends, and/or leads organizational change opportunities for improvement based on indicators, process or outcome measures, other findings and/or observations for infection prevention improvement teams in the form of facilitation, coaching, planning and data management. (10%)
- Participate in the professional development of novice or less-experienced team members (e.g., assist with preparing for CIC exam, identify relevant learning resources and opportunities, etc.). (10%)
- Proven track record for working collaboratively and successfully with staff and leaders across the organization to drive infection prevention initiatives forward. (10%)
- Participates as subject matter expert in healthcare construction/renovation. Demonstrates understanding of when an infection control risk assessment is indicated, appropriate barriers and precautions to maintain a safe patient environment and mitigation strategies in emergent situations. (10%)
- Viewed as a subject matter expert and is sought out by peers to seek resolutions to issues (10%)
- Uses independent judgement and discretion in assembling stakeholders and sponsors. (5%)
- Leads and/or coordinates the planning and response to outbreak/cluster investigations in collaboration with unit/operational leaders and public health authorities as appropriate. (5%)
- Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of educational approaches, programs, and learner outcomes. (5%)
- Anticipates issues so as to improve the quality of products/services/support produced or delivered. (5%)
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree nursing, epidemiology, public health, or other healthcare-related field Required
Work Experience:
- 4-6 years Overall professional experience Required and
- 4-6 years Infection prevention experience in a hospital/acute care setting Required and
- Completion of leadership/organizational development courses covering topics such as, but not limited to, conflict resolution, dealing with change, problem-solving, navigation challenging conversations, etc. Required
Licenses:
- CIC-Infection Prevention and Control Certification - APIC - Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- In addition to possessing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the Infection Prevention Specialist:
- Demonstrated leadership experience (formal or informal) with cross-functional teams.
- Expresses thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely in verbal and written forms.
- Exhibits effort and follow through in addressing problems or fulfilling requests and needs in a timely manner.
- Keeps necessary people informed and up-to-date.
